J V f durhamrcgion.com THE CANADIAN STATESMAN ♦ May 31, 2006 ♦ Page B5 Courtice SS sending strong group to compete at OFSAA COURTICE - Five runners from Courlice Secondary School will be testing testing their running and jumping abilities against the best high school athletes in the province beginning Thursday at the OFSAA Provincial High School Track and Field Championships. The championships arc being held at Etobicoke's Centennial Stadium, and will include Sarah Hcaly, Allysha Chapman, Chapman, Lcannc Fomenko, Jessica Gray and Gorina Canonico, who all qualified by placing in the top-four in their events at last week's Central Ontario Regional Championship Meet held at York Uni-. versity. Hcaly, Gray, Fomenko and Canonico are all members of Courlicc's junior girls 4 x 100 relay team. The team finished finished third in their race with a lime that broke the current school record. The team is currently.ranked eighth in the province and the girls hope to improve both their time and overall ranking at OFSAA. 'Healy, a provincial finalist in the 400m at last year's OFSAA Championship, qualified again this year as an individual in both the 400m and the 800m. Hcaly placed third in both events at the Cen tral Region Championships and is currently currently ranked fifth in the province in the 800m. Chapman, a Grade 11 student and fifth place finisher at last year's 400 OFSAA final, also qualified in two individual events. Chapman ran to a fourth place finish in the 800m and then leaped to another fourth place finish in the triple jump. Although not qualifying for the OFSAA meet, other Courtice athletes also performed well. Kyle Many just missed an OFSAA spot when he finished finished fifth in the Grade 9 boys' 800m. Marry also finished ninth in the 1500m. Trevor Kramer qualified for the finals in both the Grade 10 boys' 100m and 200m finals, but failed to advance to OFSAA. Lcannc Fomenko, a member of the 4 x 100 team, also just missed an individual spot at the championships when she finished finished fifth in the long jump.
