ORONO WEEKLY TIMES An aooident happenéd near Ivan Farrow’s home on the Orono-Newoas- tle highway on Tuesday evening when two ears proceeding in opposite dir- ections side-swiped each other, dam- aging the front left fenders of both cans. The cause of the accident was •Idanied on the ruts in the roads from ice, the cars being unia.ble to leave the ruts soon enough to avoid the accident. The cars were driven by Everett Gain, Sixth Line and by a Mr. 'Clydesdale of Crooked Creek. No injuries resulted. The Minister of Defence for Can- ada has engaged M. C. Hall and Jack 'Morris, eminent water craft builders, to construct two boats for use on fSaugog Lake. Jack's boat is of a type suitable for conveying troops and supplies and may be used as a submarine if emergency arises. Madi- son’s boat is very light and capable of great speed and will ibe patroling the lake from Boler’s Inlet to 11 all’s Cove for law breakers and; rum run- ners. These boats are under construc- tion alt the present time and will: be delivered and christened for active service on May 24th, 1988. Complaints are reaching the post- office department that some persons are tampering with rural mail boxes. This is a very serious offence and the parties concerned would be well advised to discontinue the habit be- fore prosecutions 'are started. The Department rightly considers a farm- er’s rural mail box sacred to the own- er and postal employees, any other unauthorized persons opening1 them or tampering with any mail matter they may 'contain are subject to very heavy penalties.
