Couroux on Wednesday e evening for the February meeting. The meeting was opened by the president Mrs. M. Manders with the Institute ode followed by repeating the Mary Stewart Collect, mrs. Couroux acted as secretary in the absence of Mrs. Turansky, The minutes of the last meeting were read and roll call was answered by How I Have Prepared for the Future. Future. Blue grass trio at Orono Jamboree The Newcastle Department of Recreation will stage another Orono Jamboree on Sunday afternoon, March 9th, at 2:00p.m. in the Orono Town Hall. The Jamboree will feature Mel Clingman and daughter Melanie of Orono, Country Singer Odey Snider, of Columbus Columbus and the Blue Grass Trio of Reg Post, Shorty Miller and Rod Craig, along with Fay Adams and the Country Hits with Fay, Glory, and Don, with Len Somersca- les and his steel guitar. M.C. Jakie Jakeman and his mouth organ. April airport start It was learned last week that the Federal government will take possession of 1800 acres of land for the new Pickering Airport by May 30th. Notices have been sent to the seventy owners of land in the described area, Concession 7 and 8 of the Town of Pickering. It is understood that there are still 36 residences occupied in the area, according to the Department Department of Public Works in Ottawa. The 1800 acres in only about ten percent of the total area of land expropriated by the government. The remaining land may be leased by the former owners at least until 1978. Former owners of the land will be given first option tc buy and move buildings on the future airport site. If they refuse, the buildings will be put on the open market. However .the process will b< complete by at least the end ol May, though residents will be allowed to stay in their homes until the end of June. This, noted the press release, will allow children to finish their school year. In July, any homes still on site will fall to the wreckers hammer. 70 PROPERTIES In total, 70 properties are involved in the airport construction. construction. There are 51 homes on the land, but only 36 are occupied.
