RING This year for the first time in years Orono has entered teams in the O.M.H.A. Teams have been entered in Atoms, PeeWees, Bantams and Midgets with some teams already playing in the schedule. For boys not playing in the O.M.H.A. schedule the Athletic has also setup teams from Orono who will play in the United Counties league where for a number of years Orono has played a big part. It is understood that there is some need for assistance in the United Counties League but that this is not the case with the O.M.H.A. local organization which is now well underway with sufficient coaches, managers and others. ORONO PEEWEES PLAY TO DRAW WITH ROUGE HILL The Orono OMHA PeeWees played to a four-all draw last Tuesday with the Rouge Hill team at the Don Beare Arena. The 4-1 edge was not to last long for West Rouge bounced back with three unanswered goals to tie the game. Dan Mitchell and Kevin Talsma shared the goal duties for Orono and like everyone else on the team played hustling hockey. ORONO OMHA BANTAMS LOSE TWO The Orono OMHA Bantams in their last two league games have been on the short end of a 3-2 score. Last Thursday they were defeated 3-2 by Pickering even though Pat Williams came forth with an excellent game scoring the two Orono goals. On Monday night West Rouge were also able to edge out a win in the last minute of the game to win by a score of 3-2. West Rouge netted the first goal to be followed in less than a minute by an Orono goal by David Hutton from a pass out from Pat Williams, John West then put the Orono team out in front 2-1 when he scored off a play by Ronnie Talsma. West Rouge tied the game in the third period and scored the winner with a little over a minute remaining in the game. The Bantams are playing their first season of OMHA hockey and are in a league with eight teams. At the present time they are playing only away gamës and will start their home sessions on November 12th. NO GIRLS FOR HOCKEY IN ORONO Although some centres are finding no difficulty in icing a girls hockey club and in fact a league has been started up to the east of us with some six or seven teams, Orono came up a blank. Well almost a blank. Only two girls registered to play hockey in Orono and we understand only three in Newcastle had the same intentions. EXPECT TO START ICE MAKING AT ORONO According to Earl Taylor everything should be 'Go" at the Orono Arena this week-end regarding ice making. It is expected that all equipment will be in operation and providing the weather will drop a few degrees (which it has right now) the process of making ice will be underway. The capacity of the ice making equipment has been greatly increased this year at the Orono rink and a full schedule of hockey will be scheduled for Wednesday and Saturday evenings in the OMHA classification and on Friday evenings for the United Counties league.
