Council of the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle, at a Council meeting to be held at the Council Chambers,' Police Building, Bowmanville, Ontario, on Monday the 12th day of March, 1979, at the hour of 9:30 o'clock, in the forenoon, propose to pass a by-law to stop up and close those parts of Lots 31 and 32 Eighth Concession, of the Geographic Township of Clarke, former' County of Durham, more particularly described as follows: ALL AND SINGULAR that certain parcel or tract of land and premises, situate, lying and, being in the Town of Newcastle, Regional Municipality of Durham, Province of Ontario, and being composed of all that portion of a travelled road running through the northerly part of Lot thirty-one (31) and thirty-two (32) in the Eighth Concession of the Geographic Township of Clarke, former County of Durham, more particularly designated as Parts Eleven (11), Twelve (12) and Thirteen (13) according to Plan 10R-915, deposited in the Land Registry Office for the Registry Division of Newcastle (No. 10) on January 5, 1979. i AND FURTHER TAKE NOTICE that before passing the said by-law Council, or a Committee of Council, shall hear in person or by his counsel, solicitor or agent any person who claims that his land will be prejudicially affected by the by-law and who applies to be heard. No injuries resulted after a Town of Newcastle Sander and a stake truck collided at approximately 9:45 Monday morning. The incident, which: took place just south of the Mill ' Street exit on highway 35, is still under investigation. The Corporation of. the Town of Newcastle sander was operated by Harland Elliott of Kendal and the stake truck by Douglas Foote of Dunsford. Honored after 30 yrs with Ganaraska Hilton Harris, 80, of Hamilton Hamilton Township, was honoured last Tuesday by the Ganaraska Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority in recognition of thirty years of service to the Authority. ' Mr. Harris is a charter member of the Authority dating back to 1946 and continues his association with the Authority today as an advisory member. He was presented with a beautiful large framed scroll. Hilton Harris in a brief statement to the meeting recalled the early history of the Ganaraska Authority and the first meeting which was held in Dr. Richardson's office at Queen's Park. He 1 said there were six members at that first meeting being Jim Boggs of Manvers Township, Township, Arthur Runnels of Hope Township, Stuart Ryan of Port Hope, Bert Reid ' of Clarke and Harold Cathcart of Manvers Township. Stuart Ryan was the first secretary- treasurer of the Authority and Bert Reid of Clarke Township was the first chairman. Mr. Harris recalls the Authority paid $5.00 an acre for the first land they purchased in the headwaters of the Ganaraska River. ( Up and Down the Book Stacks ?
