Can be town funding for ice-making machine The Finance committee of the Town of Newcastle after considerable discussion on Monday recommended to council that council support interim financing to the amount of the Wintario funds for the purchase of a new ice-making machine for the Newcastle Village arena. The request for the interim funding came from the Newcastle Newcastle Village Management committee. The total cost of the project was stated to tie $20,700. Of this amount $10,000 is expedted to come from Wintario with the remainder to be provided from public contributed funds from the Village of Newcastle. The Newcastle Village arena committee pointed out that the purchase-was required required to eliminate the diesel fumes which fill the arena from the present ice-making equipment. Counc. Barr said that the Zamboni had been •ordered and wguld arrive in Newcastle Village within the next two or three weeks. He said at this point they were to pay $10,000 with the addition al $10,000 becoming due in September. It was pointed out that at this time no application had been made for Wintario Funds and a motion was passed that the Treasurer make application for the funds. Mayor Rickard moved that council provide interim financing financing to the amount of the Wintario grant subject that such grant was approved. This motion was not supported supported with a seconder. Gounc. Hobbs pointed out that there was still $2000 owing to the Town of a total $4000 loan to the arena management. He also said that the Town was fronting some $300,000 for the arena construction. Where will this extra money come from, he asked? "We never learn", stated Hobbs, "and now I find that the Zamboni has been ordered ordered and will be delivered prior to any approval of Wintario funds".
