6-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, May 30th, 1979 Kendal News A grassy place, a little breeze The sunshine gently streaming: streaming: ■ It's blossom-time again and what j ; A lovely day for dreaming! The weather was very fine for election day May 22 and a couple of days following'but on May 25 we got a terrific wind and rain from thé ' north-east that tore shingles and tin off a great many, buildings. Trees fell over power lines and it was several hours before power was restored. If a wet May makes hay there should be plenty this year. On Sunday, May 27th it was Conference Sunday so Rev. A. Tizzard was in Peterborough. Kendal held a special service ; with Mr. Mark Wagar singing i a solo, "I'll go where you : want me to go dear Lord", ] accompanied by Mrs. K. i Wood. Then he told the ! children the story of Zac- | chaeus the rich tax collector ; whom the people hated who 5 wanted to see Jesus but he ! was a little man etc. Then he ; taught them the story in song as he sang and played on his guitar. "Zacchaeus was a i little man, He climbed up in a j: tree". 'The children loved acting out the motion song. If Jesus loved a tax collector he must lové us all. Mrs. A. Tizzard gave the message, reading from First Corinthians Corinthians and taking as her subject, "Love". Next Sunday is a special day for the Sunday School. It j is awards day. The Sunday School will conduct the morning morning worship service. In the afternoon at 2 p.m. will be a Pot Luck picnic at the school Î grounds. Bring your dishes and cutlery, also lawn chairs. Everyone welcome. The Kendal Women's Institute Institute met at the home of Mrs. K. Dykeman on Wednesday evening, May 23rd with nine members present. Mrs. J. Henderson opened the meeting meeting with the "Ode" and the Mary Stewart collect. Mrs. K. Dykeman read the minutes and the financial report was given. Three new life membership membership pins must be sent for. Those who will receive life memberships are Mrs. E. Foster, Mrs. M. Manders and Mrs. W. Turansky. This meeting was in charge of Mrs. W. Turansky and Mrs. E, Couroux. The Motto was Pioneering Now and Then. Roll Call - what is it you used to have to do when a child you don't have to do now. One chore long ago was cleaning the lamp chimneys, bringing in the wood, churning with a dash churn, windlessing water water up from the well, etc. Then Mrs. Turansky read an article entitled, Pioneering in North Battleford. The writer was fourteen when their middle class English family left England and camé to a homestead in Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan. Their first task was building a house. Something . they had no exprience to help them. Her mother wished they had brought the maid with them to mind Junior who crept around in the dirt. Father said, "It would have been another mouth to feed". At last, the cottage was finished but alas their rejoicing rejoicing came to a sudden end. Thg» next story she read was, "Hobby farming at Cree- more", or "Pioneering in Reverse". We plan to serve sand-' wiches at the Auction Sale at the Low's on June 16th at 1 p.m. Next Institute meeting will be at the home of Mrs. J. Henderson on June 13th.
