Luke2:49 On Saturday, June 23rd it was ' the coldest day since records began for that date. It was 13 degrees Celcius at the airport. The old record low for that date was 16 Celcius or 61 Fahrenheit during the daytime. Then there was a cold northwest wind blowing: On June 12th there was a touch of frost in Kendal. Haying is well begun, an abundant crop but other things need rain badly. Sunday was Communion Sunday at Kendal church. The scripture reading was St. John 6:41-59. Mrs. A. Tizzard sang beautifully, "Stranger of Galilee". Service was also held in Nel-Gor and South Haven Nursing Homes by our minister in the afternoon. July is holiday month so the Kendal Church will be closed. However we can attend the Church Service held in Kirby Centennial School next Sunday Sunday morning at 10 a.m. On Thursday evening, June 21st Mrs. M.*Wagar held" a shower in her home for Miss Linda Brewer of this village. There were over thirty invited invited guests. 1 Games were enjoyed, enjoyed, then the gifts were opened by Linda who received received many beautiful and useful articles. A dainty lunch was served, then the bride to be cut the pretty bridal shower cake. The wedding is to take place the last day of June. On Saturday, June 23 the Carscadden Picnic came to Orono Park. Many of those attending had come one hundred and ten miles from places as far away as Collingwood, Thornbury, Staÿner, London and Ottawa. ■ In fact the one from the greatest distance came from Sault Ste. Marie. It was mucn too cold, cloudy and windy to. set tables in the Park. There was a wedding in the United Church and a family gathering gathering in the Oddfellows Hall. The original Carscadden family came from Enniskillen, Enniskillen, Ireland in 1833. They were twenty-three weeks on the Ocean. They were almost here when a storm blew them almost back to the old land. The mother Flora (Dean) Carscadden died at sea. They wrapped her in the Union Jack and lowered her into the ocean. They blazed the trail to their homestead on the sixth line where Mr. E. Atkins lives today. Then they dug wells but couldn't dig deep enough to reach water. So they moved down to the valley west' of Kendal where there were many springs and creeks and where the Provincial Provincial Park is located today. They were the first settlers of Kendal. Three of the sons stayed here and three went farther west. There.were two daughters, Mrs. Cooney and Mrs. Boles. Some of those who attended the picnic drove down to see the Kendal Provincial Park west of Kendal, the original homestead. . Mrs. Verna Anderson of Ottawa visited with her cousins Mr. and Mrs. Reg Elliott for a few days and attended the Carscadden picnic picnic on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Carscad- ' den are travelling to the east coast. Mr. * Vernon Peacock is having a sale of household goods on Saturday, July 7th at his farm east of Kendal. Mr. Eric Atkins of the 6th line held the annual re-union of HAM Radio Operators at his home on June 23 and 24. There were several aerials erected on his lawn on Saturday and Sunday.
