Ply des ign to sponsor four refugee families As a result of a meeting held in the Orono United Church on Monday evening a recommendation will be sent to the Official Board of the Church in that a refugee family be sponsored by the Church. The meeting also set up a committee to assist with the sponsoring of the family to this area. Twenty-five members of the congregation congregation were in attendance at the meeting and following a lengthy discussion voted with a majority for thfe sponoring of a refugee family from south-east. He said we can supply employment and accommodation for the four families and are working closely with the Immigration Department, Operation Lifeline Lifeline and other groups in an endeavour to do what we can, for these people. He said, "It is an opportunity of a lifetime which we may never have again to save a life". A by-law çstablishing the new commission is to be passed oh September 4th. DISMISSES MALL HEARING The Ontario Municipal Board last week dismissed a hearing in which Northumberland Mall Ltd. was asking for a rezoning of lands in Cobourg, adjacent to County Fair on Highway No. 2, in order to allow the construction of a major shopping centre. The OMB dismissed the hearing on four points. Representatives of Northumberland Mall Ltd. said they will again apply for the rezoning with the hope that a new hearing can be held within three to four months. ♦ WILL ENTER QUEEN OF THE FAIRS PAGEANT Miss Kathie Lycett of Orono who last year was crowned Miss Durham Central at the 1978 Orono Fair will on August 15th compete for the title of Miss C.N.E. Queen of the Fairs Pageant. The Queen of the Fairs Pageant will be held at the Canadian National Exhibition and iS sponsored by Canada Packers Limited with a total prize money of $1,000. There will be close to 100 contestants in the confpetition. Counc. Clarke spoke of Waltona Park in Newcastle village which has been purchased purchased by Ontario Hydro, He said the park used to be a rural retreat within the Town but now is a disgrace and abandoned.
