Port Hope A proposal to promote a private Day Nursery in the Port Hope High School was tabled at a recent meeting of the . Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education. Education. The Board has asked for a formal committee report on the cost of the program to the Board. Mrs. Madeline Currelly, promoter of the proposal and a professional day care counsellor, counsellor, said there would be no cost to,the Board other than light and heat. She stated that she would look after the caretaking of the room and other costs as staffing. It was also pointed out that the health inspector had approved a classroom use for the day nursery and as well the building and fire inspectors had also given their approval. Mrs. Parker, chairman of the board also informed the 983-5301 members that they had given their approval in principal to the proposal. Mrs. Harriett Reisler, Port Hope trustee, and a supporter of the program, said she was tipset the board was reluctant to 'give its approval and was quibbling over the cost. William Carman noted that the business administrator had referred to the proposal as a community use. Carman stated that a report had been reeived that showed that, a savings of $2500 was possible through the mothballing of a single' 1 classroom. Trustee Geroge Cameron stated he wanted to see all facts and figures as to negative grants if such a classroom is used for the nursery school. Emmett Creighton was of the opinion that the school board was # not going to save that much money by closing of a classroom.
