Published Every Wednesday Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, February 18th, 1981 Following his nomination as Progressive Conservative candidate by the PC Association Association of Durham East Sam Cureatz, incumbent member of the Ontario Legislature, presented his wife Cathy with a bouquet of red roses. In his acceptance speech Sam thanked Cathy for keeping keeping the home fires burning over the past four years acting both as mother and father to their two children. Sam said he was pleased with his nomination and let it be known that he had his eye on the front bench in the legislature. "My foot is tin the ladder", he said. Sam will contest the Durham Durham East riding for the PCs while Jim Potticary represents represents the liberals and Bruce McArthur the New Democratic Democratic Party. Bell Canada asking $1.80 monthly increase Bell Canada is asking for a $1.80 monthly service charge increase for residential customers customers of the Orono telephone exchange. Bell applied last week for a thirty percent residential service charge increase and a forty percent business service charge increase increase to the CRTC. If the increase is granted monthly charges for phones , in the Orono exchange, will increase from the present $6.00 a month to $7.80 per month plus sales taxes. Business Business phones on the Orono exchange will increase from $12.25 to $17.15 plus the seven percent sales tax. Residential service charges in Orono increased from $5.30 to $6.00 a month in August of 1980. Oshawa subscribers on the Oshawa system would have an increase of , $2.50 if the increase is granted , to a monthly rate of $10.55. Phone bills in Bowmanville and Whitby will increase by $2.25 a month to $9.75. Business rates in Oshawa will increase almost $10.00 to, $33.30 a month while in Bowmanville the rates will increase from the present $21.00 to $29.40 a month. Long distance calls will increase by .11 cerifs for the first minute and up a further nine cents for each additional minute. Bell is also asking for • a five cent hike at pay phones at 25 cents. O'Neil, a liberal M.P.P. since 1975 from Quinte was the guest speaker at the Durham East Liberal Association Association nomination meeting held at the Courtice High School last Wednesday "evening. "evening. O'Neil said the liberals would form the next Ontario government because Davis was incapable of deviking a strong team at Queen's Park. O'Neil said the citizens of Ontario have not been aware of the waste in Ontario and we as liberals have to put this across in our campaign.
