Prior to any decision being made by the committee a study is to be conducted involving the fire, chief and the Director of Planning Don Smith. Smith said he could have ternis of reference available in the near future. A motion by Counc. Apparently a snowshoe rabbit with habitat neas Jack's home in Wawa is still carrying its white coat, a sign that more of that white stuff is still to come? ' The Finance Committee for the Town of Newcastle sent the 1981 budget to council on Monday where it has been shelved to the call of a special meeting by the Mayor sometime sometime in the next two weeks. However everyone speaks of a full agenda over the next two weeks. The Finance committee completed their deliberance on the budget last Friday ând the completed document was ready for council on Monday. Coun. E.R. Woodyard, chairman of finance said the increase over that of last year was in the area of six to seven percent, about $1.00 a month extra for local Town of Newcastle purposes. 'He also said that the previous council deserved a lot of credit in moving the tax date ahead which this year has drastically reduced borrowing borrowing by the Town. He said in 1980 council had to borrow close to $1 billion early in the year which has not been the case this year. Counc. Diane Harare said she believed -in what was being done but is somewhat unhappy about the size of the increase. She pegged the increase from 4.46 mills to 4.6 mills over that of last year. "This is not what ! wanted she said but some things are now being done which cannot be left over to next year. Harare points to tee fact that the committee has approved the need for an accounting manager, manager, a deputy fire chief, an accounting clerk for the Public Works department, and às well made allowance in the budget for such things as the Splash complex, a salt dome, work on Orono Main Street and such as works on Liberty street. She said this things cannot be put off for ever. Harare said she could not support the expenditure, of $20,000 for th& enforcement df a Occupancy and Maintenance Maintenance by-law out of tax funds but it was a matter support by the committee.
