Sam from Queen's Park At the start of this Session of the Ontario Legislature I had the honour to be ap- , pointed Deputy Speaker and 'Chairman ,of the Committee of the "Whole House. Both these duties are important to the orderly running of the Legislature, and, in my upcoming upcoming cable television broadcast, I explain the role of the Deputy Speaker with the help of the new Speaker of the House, John Turner, M.P.P. Often, when I am sitting in the. Speaker's chair, it seems all the M.P.P.'s are jumping up at the same time! Discretion is required, and John Turner has developed a system for rotating questions between the ^Liberals, the K.D.P. and P.C. backbenchers. backbenchers. ' It is not uncommon for members of the Government to want to question Cabinet Ministers. Speaker Turner gives Government members the opportunity to ask questions, questions, but recognizes that they, unlike the opposition members, have the chance to talk with Ministers in caucus.
