Krruisrh t t H****' to start this Wednes. The construction project on the east side of the Orono business section is to get underway today, Wednesday and to be completed as soon as possible. At the same time as the reconstruction of the sidewalks and extended boulevard, Newcastle Hydro will complete their project of removing hydro lines and hydro poles on the east side. It is expected that the project will be completed within a two week period or less. Under the Public Works Department of the Town of Newcastle, a contract, has been let in an amount of some $33,000 for the work including including new sidewalks, new boulevard and planters. The project also includes three sets of steps from the road level to the sidewalk level with centre rails. The project, when completed, completed, will also include the planting of some trees with metal guards on the cast side of the business section. The Centre will also accept self referrals and appointments can be made by phoning Pinewood Centre at 728-8195. The youth program at the Centre will also work closely with schools to educate the younger students with problems problems related to drug and alcohol use. •The new program came about out of a sense of concern concern within the Region that drug and alcohol use was growing in the younger set. "Our clients are getting younger and younger", states Lowery. The Pinewood Centre has, in the past, dealt only with adults and with concerns of alcohol problems. Lyall, the former owner and •publisher of the Newcastle Reporter, has retained his equipment equipment from his Newcastle days and states he is already to go by the end of the month. The newspaper is to be known as the Guildwood Scarborough Guardian. Lyall states that Guildwood is a community of some 2000 homes in Scarborough. Scarborough. Ken has always been an outspoken editor and during his : ays with the Newcastle council was equally outspoken. No _<40ubt he will carry this to the Guardian. We wish him well. LOTS TO DO THIS WEEK IN ORONO Tonight, Wednesday and Thursday are all booked up with the Orono Arena Fund Raising Beef Barbecue at the Park and he Horticultural Annual Flower Show at the Orono United . It all starts at 5:00 p.m. and you can also mingle with • your friends and neighbours. , Then come Thursday evening, it's the annual flower show of the Orono Horticultural Society which is held in the*basement of the Orono United Church. Preparing for winter activity T he Canadian Ski Patrol System is now thinking snow and winter activities on the slopes and trails. The group is interested in gaining prospective prospective ski patrollers to-train this fall in preparation for itheir 1 work in the 'winter. Further details of the system appears page 5. One hundred and fifty patrollers 'last year provided valuable service at seven local Alpine ski areas as well as covering some 400-500 km of crosscountry crosscountry ski trails.
