The 3rd period was scoreless and the game ended in a 5-1 win for Orono. Orono's 2nd game was 1 against Newcastle and was extremely dose from start to finish. Newcastle scored the first goal but Scott McCullough McCullough tied it up assisted by Brad Roberts and Paul Hënry. Orono pulled ahead in the 2nd period When Eric Dreslinski scored assisted by Richie Dupe and Paul Henry. The 3rd period was scoreless until the last 15 seconds when Newcastle tied it up. A 5 minute sudden death overtime overtime period had to be played without goalies. After keeping keeping the fans on the edge of their seats for most of that time, Brad Roberts finally scored assisted by Paul Henry to end the game in a 3-2 win for Orono. In the 3rd game, Orono played Fenelon Falls. Although Orono played well they were no match for Fenelon who beat them 5-2. Orono received medallions as runners-up. Tennant Fuelers trounce Omemee Orono Tennant Fuels Atoms started Jhe New Year off right on Jan. 3, 1983 in Omemee with a strong team effort and a 3 to 1 decision over the home team. Jason Burnham started things off early in the 2nd period beating the Omemee goalie from close range finishing off a Todd Gray, Anthony Webb passing play. Jason's goal gave Orono a 1 to 0 lead after the two teams had fought a scoreless 1st period draw. Early in the third period Blaine Souch scored what . proved to be the winner after Omemee had tied the score. David Sheridan and Jeff Hartwig assisted midway through the third period Anthony Anthony Webb added an insurance insurance goal from Jeff Devolin and Jason Major. Glyn Jenkins and Mike Hamel both scored two goals with Steve Sawyer-MUrray Dennis assisting. Game 2 tree. 28th Orono 3 Markham Selects 2 Playing their second game in 4 hours the blades scored two in the first period and one in the third with only 1:10 left in the game. The game was an up hill battle for Orono having to deal with many penalties in the first and second periods. But they finally triumphed putting them into the B Championship Championship on the next day. Scoring for Orono were Murray Dennis, Dennis, Paul Morton and Steve Murree. Game 3 "B" Championship Orono 2 Markham Majors 0 Goal tenders Geoff Green and Dino Medd registered shutouts for the local boys in a well played fast paced game with everyone putting out 100 percent effort. The first and third periods were scoreless with Orono doing the damage in the second second period. Steve Sawyer opened the scoring with a low drive. Steve Murree and Glyn Jenkins assisting Paul Rosseau scored on a flip shot from centre ice. Mike Hamel and Randy Tennant assisting. Everyone played well in this nice win and received medallions for their effort. Jan. 2, 1983 Orono 7 Bewdley 0 Again Geoff Green and Dino Medd, Orono's dynamic duo in nets for the blades came away with another shutout victory, Bewdley had only seven skaters and Orono finally wore them down and were able to score on the goaltender Rob Irwin. This was a good win for Orono because Bewdley handed the local boys their first kiss in their league games for the season. Jan. 3 Orono 6 Millbrook 4 The Hamilton Insurance Blades travelled to Millbrook on Monday evening and played a spirited game against their rivals. Orono tends to get bottled up in Millbrook's rink because its narrow and the opposition takes full advantage of it by running at you as soon as you touch the puck. Orono opened the scoring with Mike Hamel tucking the puck 1 around the goaltender Brian Doherty with only 30 seconds played in the first period. Assists going to: Paul Rosseau and Geoff Green. The score see sawed back and forth but it wasn't until 9:45 of the third period that Stephen Murree went on a scoring binge and popped in three goals - two of them in 22 seconds to put the game away for Orono. Guy Brachvogel and Robert French made up the rest of the kid line picking up the assists. The rest of the boys played well but only in spurts iti this hard hitting game.
