4-Orono Weekly limes, Wednesday, June 8, 1983 Orono Bantams lose in the rain, win at Clarke The past week was a busy one for this Orono team, playing two games with a practice in between! The away game on Tuesday against Kedrori was played through a heavy downpour bijt the rain couldn't wash away the three goals Kedron scored as Orono went scoreless throughout the game. The feeling was that the small field at Kedron was not ideal for Orono's style of play. The second game was on Thursday at Clarke High School against Zion and Orono came through with a much better effort. Positional Positional play was improved along with the teams attitude toward the game. The final score was Orono 2, Zion 0. Brian 1 Milson along wiih his defensive team were, the key fields to holding Zion off the scoreboard in the first half. However in the second half with the wind at their back the offensive team capitalized with two fine goals by Ken Bailey and Peter Blight. Orono's next home game is against Zion, Thursday, June 23rd at Clarke High School field starting at 6:30 p.m. Orono Pee Wee Girls take a big edge over Brownsdale Orono #3 vs Brownsdale "Well, the action got underway XVednesday night for the Orono #3 girls' Pee Wee baseball team. Although the score was tied at 5 a piece at the end of the first inning, Orono qbickly assumed the lead and never looked back. Leanne Lycett and Lean ne Reid led the way at the bat with 5 for 5 and 4 for 4 respectively. Close behind were Leanne Mutton, Christy Flintoff and Karen Talstna, each with 4 for 5, Toni Howes and Tammy Morrison, Morrison, each with 3 for 4, Dana Shetler and Kristine Howes, with 2 for 4,' Jennifer Montgomery Montgomery with 3 for 5, Kim Lycett and Teresa Kennedy, with 2 for 5. The action was fast and furious with the girls making several good defensive plays. The final score was 29 to 16 for Orono #3. All team members are to be congratulated congratulated for a fine effort. The girls look forward to their next game on Tuesday, June 9th, against the Bowman ville Rams at Central Central School in Bowman ville. Game time is 6:30 p.m. Orono Atom Soccer team posts two wins in two outings Orono Team 1 has started the season strongly with two victories in the last two weeks. In the season's opener our team overcame both Tyrone and the rainy weather with strong positional play. Sean Hardy scored 2 goals and Cameron Esler 1 in the hard fought 3-2 conquest. However, it was the excellent ball control displayed by the entire team which won the game. Fullbacks, David Burnett, Brad Minnis and Sean MacKenzie hoisted the ball out of our territory and halfbacks Craig Nemis, Sean Kennedy and Scott McAllister fed the forwards. Mi c heal Clay, Laura Abrams, Grant Tomkins and Scott Williams took care of the offence. The second game against Bowmanville's Lange Photo was an entirely different kettle kettle of fish. A lopsided 5-0 score allowed the Coaches aÿ opportunity to test players at various positions, a luxury we shall not always be able to enjoy. enjoy. Determined offensive play by players such as Jason Major, Ryan Rock, Greg Hooper, Shane Jones and David Burnett allowed our goalie, Jim Partner, to rest relative to his sensational effort effort ' in game one. Con- gratulat ions team but remember that we still must face several strong teams.
