Last Wednesday the membership of the Orono Showcase Co-operative approved approved plans to offically open their retail outlet in the Village on Friday, September 23rd and continue with the opening features through to Sunday, September 25th. The Orono Showcase Cooperative Cooperative are opening the outlet in the renovated baCk- ' area of t he Orono Armouries building using upwards of 2000 square feet for display purposes of arts, crafts and antiques. All work will be by members of the Co-opetative and items are being juried prior to entry into the cooperative cooperative in art effort to maintain quality items. It is understood that the co-operative does have a membership of some twenty- two members and do have a waiting list of others wishing to now join. The co-operative will open on Fridays, 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Saturdays, 9:00 a,in. to 4:00 p.m. and Sundays Sundays 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.pi. The premises recently were repainted along with some renovations to allow the joining joining of three rooms on the ground floor level as* well as the sanding and refinishing of ail floors. The main hall area to the south of the rooms has also" been painted ready for special events that will be promoted by the co-operative from time to time. Ellren Construction Ltd. of Thornhill was the successful successful bidder. The new hall to be located on the west side of Main .Street, north of Millson Hill ■'Drive, is to be completed by -November 18, 1983. The bid came in somewhat over estimate and budgeted amount for the hall but Katherine Campbell said the unfunded amount could be easily handled by the Town either through a possible Town surplus al Ihe end of the year or by holding some costs over to 1984. » A training hydrant"which had been deleted from the bid wa? reinstated by council at a. cost of $4,400.00 and is included included in the overall cost of '$342,525.00. The training hydrant is located at the rear of the new hall. The new hall contains some 5000 square feet with accommodation accommodation for four trucks with two front doors and one rear door. The hall also includes includes an office for the chief and deputy-chief, a meeting, hj'pm, a workshop arfa, a. hose tour, showers, and a mechanical-electric room; decorative cement block. The highest tender submit ted to the Town was in the amount of $398,600.00.
