It all happened but in a few short seconds. As is usual the hawk covered the gull with its wings and was administering administering the death blows with its beak. I'm kicking myself now for 1 drove off to get back to the office. 1 should have stayed to see what was to further happen. But I was and I am satisfied that the two hawks were working together and that the original Red Tail was in fact distracting distracting the gull with its aerobatics while the second hawk flew in from above for the kill upon the unsuspecting unsuspecting gull. Certainly the hawk would fly-off with its prey, eat it on the ground. I now wonder if it was dinner dinner for two, certainly it was a team effort. This incident reminds me of others, such as a Red Tail Hawk flying at quite a height with a two to three foot snake in its talons. This happened on a trip to the Garden Hill pond,, I had never thought of snakes being being food for birds until I had witnessed the above but this was not the most recent such incident. Last summer at Presquile Park 1 was walking a wood trail and came put into a grassed opening to observe a crow pounding its beak into something on the ground. After three or four minutes the crow picked up a sizeable snake in its beak and fleW into a dead tree where it hung the dead snake over a limb and proceeded with its midafternoon midafternoon lunch. I doubt I will ever see such again as on Monday afternoon. Incidentally a pair of Red Tail Hawks do make their home in the Staples' bush, both winter and summer, summer, at least this has been the case for the past two years. Its surprising what you see when you least expect it and this certainly was the case Monday afternoon on returning from a trip into Oshawa. I had just turned off highway 115 and was atop the overpass when 1 noticed a Red Tail Hawk carrying out some most unusual aerobatics. These aerobatics were partial rolls and steep swoops done between the top/ he tall pines along the valley ridjk, ..id ih.c ground. At that instance I felt that the bird wants to be seen and it is putting putting on somewhat of a display, never have I seen such antics. It all happened so fast but I did null over to the side of'the road and watched the hawk as it continued its display across the highway east: and disappear behind the Staples' bush. But in the meantime l had also noticed a gull keeping an eye on the aerobatic hawk. As 1 turned my head back the gull came into view again just under the : car window line. Just as 1 saw it a.
