; lO-Orono Weekly limes, Wednesday, April 27, 1988 Lung Association offers program for pre-schoolers The Durham, Region Lung Association will bring its unique Pre-School Asthma Program to Port Perry this Spring. This five week, ten session course will bb held in the evening at the Community Memorial Hospital, Port Perry, from May 16th to June 15th, 1988, for a $20.00 registration fee. Places are v strictly limited and early registration is advised. Based on the highly successful program developed 1 by the Utah Lung Association, t*he course teaches simple self-care techniques which help three to five year olds keep their asthma in check. These techniques are basically the breathing and body relaxation methods taught by the ' Lung Association to older children and adult asthma sufferers. What is new however, is the translation of these methods into format that can be understood by very young children. Through gaming, modeling and imaging, the childreri'are taught to use their diaphragm to breathe more easily during an asthmatic 'episode. Parents and children also learn how to reduce the anxiety and tension that often contribute to the severity of an attack. Hydro Lakeshore area wins Oel award Ontario Hydro's Lakeshore Area has been named Electrical Utility of the Year by the Ontario Electrical League (OEL). Each year, OEL members nominate and select the utility which they feel gave the best support support to the electrical industry. The 44 chapters of the OEL represent 320 electrical utilities as well as independent independent electrical contractors and manufacturers. Lakeshore Area Manager Kim Osmars accepted the award at the OEL's annual conference which was held recently at the Convention Centre in Hamilton. "Being nominated by members of the electrical electrical industry is a great honour," Osmars said. "This award really belongs to the employees at Lakeshore, who earned earned it through their support and hard work," he added.
