I-- Newton ville Alive by Peggy Mullan "" ■■■ |i - " -- ) . ' When someone very dear is lost, wounds of the heart are long to heal... Life can be described in tnany-a- cliche manner: "Life is short, live it to the fullest.." Live for today, tomorrow will take care of itself.." or "In your busy schedule, take time to smell the roses.." Sometimes death frequently makes us stop to look at life. To take stock of the many blessings we have and to cherish what really matters. matters. It usually is when a loved one is lost that we, belatedly, remember all the person's great qualities,.the true wealth left openly to us, of laughter, kindness and love..this we will always have, undeniably forever, in our hearts. Okay..we do not want to get overdone with this one sentiment - that comes along to all so'oner or later. Looking at the other sentiment sentiment - you might describe it as small, shallow or whatever word suits. It is pettiness, you know - the times where people can get caught up sometimes for years, in their self-made unhappy lifestyle - which includes envy or jealousy, anger or being too materialistic. They are those that get involved with too many things that are just not worth the hostility and sadness they cause. Through the past several months, as we "chat" from week to week, you might have thought that 1 have very little patience for bickering or pettiness., or for over-opinated people with little facts to go on. It's true. Maybe..maybe if certain incidents incidents in life could be put on video tape. After having a candid look, people might: see that the dialogue first of all, probably lacks any sensible sensible content, is repetitive and goes nowhere, the plot is totally vague, and the ending disappointing. Result - appetite lost for popcorn, erase entire scene, and under no circumstances circumstances - do not rerun. A close family is quite something. If you are one who never had it as a child, then discover it.later, the happiness happiness to be found will change you from head to toe, right through to your heart. ^ Little Scoops... - It is a big day! The Durham! East Junior Farmers had their annual zone games in Lindsay this past Saturday, July 9th. They gained the most "points and came out overall winnér. The Newtonville grade five students who will be heading out to Newcastle Public School in September to start grade 6 were sent off on the last day of school with many hugs and good wishes as they paraded through a tunnel of arms. Students and teachers bid a fond farewell to students, Matt Strutt, Ken Peleshok, Michele Landry, Lori Hale, Steven Green, Melissa Todd, Michael Zachanowich, Lori Ann Pittand and Brenda Pearson. - Welcome to C.I.B.C., Newcastle's new bank manager, Mr. Joe McLaughlin. I'm sure Mr. McLaughlin will enjoy working with the pleasant and helpful staff at the bank. - Sun and heat can really be harmful. harmful. Watch the kids.. Hats if you can get them to wear them from time to time, will help. Be sensible with sun! - As my on-t.he-go mother-in-law tells me from downtown "Wrinkle City," just south of Havelock, Ontario.. Ontario.. "Do not overdo it in the sun! For years 1 sunbathed from morning morning 'til night and certainly didn't wear or use anything to protect fny skin. It's true sun rays damage the skin..and skin has to last a lifetime. Look at me - I'm middle-aged (76 years young) and I'm certainly not ready for all these wrinkles! Thank you for making this Newtonville area - a family part of me. I welcome your "Scoop contributions" contributions" -'weddings, births, anniversaries anniversaries or special family and community events and milestones. - Now! Let's get on with summer! Sincerely, Peggy « Asks town to retain creek land ownership Roy Forrester on Monday made a bid to council asking that they re-t tain in Toyvn ownership lands in the Orono Estates development rather than selling the lands to individuals. Council was to accept a recommendation recommendation that a parcel of land at Taunton-Road and Peter's pike be sold to an abutting lando'wner. Forrester made claim that such lands with a water course would maintain a water supply "for the Orono Creek if left in a natural stale rather than being manicured. Forrester said over the years the How of water and source for the, Orono Creek has been deteriorating its esthetics would be lost as it passed passed through the Orono Park. He said.the park was a facility of the Town with the creek providing the esthetics. He noted that landscaping landscaping was an integral part of all town facilities, noting the new administrative administrative building, and .that indeed indeed it did cost money to maintain these esthetics. Forrester noted policies in place for valleylands along creeks in the Courtice and Bowman ville area and felt this should be extended to the Wilmot and Orono Creek. Comic. Ham re had the recommendation recommendation to sell pulled from the due to the loss of the natural environment environment and the depletion of wet areas. He said he feared the Orono Creek would become nothing more than a storm sewer in the lui urcand minutes and stated it was to allow councillors to reconsider if they wished. ,She said she still agreed with the recommendation to sell but that it wasn't that she disagreed Durham East Agricultural News ^™ ...,r Irthn K Kinlm; py John K. If you are concerned with the nutritional value of your feed, why not have some forage crop .tests taken? There are some charges involved. The actual sample taking is a free service, while the analysis charge varies from $10.00 - $23.00. Hamre pointed out that neither the Ganaraska or the To.wn had taken any action to maintain the property over the years and were not likely to in the future. She said there was also the matter of the Taunton road widening. The recommendation to sell passed.
