This iiitn. ■ n tlivrc arc always more charitable events, causes, drives and benefits. They are all fine groups and organizations. All do add definite joy at Christmàs for many who would otherwise see it as just another day. 1 have heard some controversy and bitter overtones here and there about some of the people on the receiving end of gifts, food and toys from church groups or other institutions. institutions. It is true.. .there are some bad apples apples in every bunch, that unfortunately unfortunately can make the rest look bad. Some individuals will do what they can in order to get what they can. I hope these causes rise above, to always be there at Christmas. There are still in this day and age, families who do not like to accept charity, but, if only for their children, must. When I was a very young girl, we were one of those families on the list., Come Christmas a wonderful food basket brimming with all sorts of pleasures and treats - tins of cranberries, corn and carrots, a box of stuffing, apples and oranges, crackers and decorated cookies would arrive. It was wrapped in shiny gold or red cellophane, topped topped with a big bow. If I close my eyes, I swear -1 can still see it all. What an impact it left. As it was for many other families, if we did not get this special gift at Christmas, it was plain and simple...there would be no Christmas dinner. If everyone even donated just a little - a pair of children's mitts, a few dollars, a couple tins of vegetables, it would do sqch good. Look into the* charity of your choice - investigate it. Then together, share some reaf Christmas spirit. On this nçte, here are some "Bah HumbUs!" sent: out: - to so-called "He-Men" who think it's "wimpy" to like Christmas trees, carols and shopping; - to "Scrooges" and Scroogettes" who should crawl back under their moss-covered rocks at least until the Holiday Season has passed. - to certain merchants at the mall who tell you they're going back to Montreal with their wares, almost momentarily and you should buy right way! (let them go!) - to Gillette (Papermate) Canada and the other companies who have chosen this time to announce their intent to leave Canada, (of course, having nothing to do with Free Trade) - to NBC, ABC and CBS for put ting so much violence on television. That's entertainment? * ' Little Scoops... - Various Christmas fundraisers have been underway for quite some time now, all in the sharing spirit of the season. One such event was the selling of poinsettias by the Band and Athletic Dept, at Clarke High School I mm November 25ih to December 2nd Proceeds will benefit the needy in the area, via the Salvation Army. - Let it snow! You and your child should know the bus number, as the radio stations will announce route cancellations by bus number and bus company (i.e. Charterways). - December 13th is the date to circle on your calendar, for the School Christmas Concert at Newtonville, the children have been practicing and eagerly preparing to entertain. - December 16th is the last day of school before the holidays...students will enjoy a scrumptious Christmas dinner and celebrations of sorts to kick off their Christmas break. - Get Well wishes are extended to Phyllis Peck of Newtonville who has been ill for a couple of weeks now.
