Christmas carols are being being sung, but let's think about the real reason we celebrate Christmas. When we were children the same as children today, we were getting real excited about Santa Claus, gifts, candy etc. But is that really the reason we celebrate, to receive gifts from someone called Santa Claus? We need to really start thinking about the real reason we celebrate Christmas. In Matthew 1 Verse 21 it tells us why we should be celebrating, "and she (Mary) shall bring forth a son, and you shall call his name Jesus; for he shall save his people from their sins." Now that's reason to celebrate! In Chapter 2 Verse 1, "It tells us Orono Public School News This week Safety Patrollers, Juice Monitors and Staff Room Monitors are having a pizza party. Clarke High School Band will play Wednesday, December 13th at the Orono School. On Friday, boys and girls volleyball in the gym. Jonathan Noble and pavid Swan of grade 6 are moving 'on Friday. Jonathan to Burketon and David to Port Perry. Some students asked them these questions: Q. What year in' this school was your favourite? , A. Our favourite years were in Mrs. Brown's class. Q. Jonathan, do you think you will like living in Burketon? A. Yes, but I want to stay at th'is school. Q. David when you move will yotl keep in touch with friends in Orono? • A. Yes, I will call them daily. Q. How did you feel when you were told you were moving. A. We felt sort of happy, sort of. sad. by David Swan and Jonathan Noble that wise men came' from the east to Jerusalem", and in Verse 3 "thye had seen his star in the east, and they were coming to worship him." Verse 11, Chapter 2 says, "when they saw the young child with Mary his mother, they . fell down, and worshipped him," and then they opened their treasures and presented unto him gifts; gold, frankincense and myrrh. They gave Jesus presents, we still do the same today at Christmas, birthdays, babies births. There is nothing wrong with that. The whole season seems to be too commercialized anymore. All the advertising is keyed to buy, buy, buy. And let me stress that I don't have a problem with gift giving. I guess it's the attitude attitude of giving today that seems wrong. You buy for me and I'll buy for you. The wise men gave gifts because they recognized Jesus for who he was. The Saviour of all mankind and because they loved him. Jesus gave the greatest gift anyone could ever give to all ' mankind His life, and all we have to do is ask in all sincerity for Him to come into our life, and guess what He does! You have to ask Him in though, He does not and will never violate your will. Comments or Questions. Write Box 179, Orono.
