vrono weekly limes, Wednesday, December 20, 1989-13 In the spirit of Christmas t ' i;-\ i„ j by Jodi Faulkner N isle marte»* t.uN'&b he Jwhoa! Travelling north on Highway 115 at Enterprise the Christmas scene of mobils on the lawn of Mac and Norma Ransberry gains a lot of attention attention and a closer view it becomes most impressive. Over the pfist three years Mac has been a busy little Elf and with farmyard farmyard engineering has a smooth running running group of eight reindeers pranc ing across the lawn. And during the past, year has created another mobile with his Santa's Workshop. One can add to this a goodly number of life-size models with the Christmas thdtne. "I'm nearly complete in the project," project," states Mac who takes great delight in outlining the mechanics of the operation. sSIBfi <6 Just George" When you read this short story, thêre will be only about one week left in 1989. I hope sincerely, that it has been a good year for you. Although for some, unfortunately, perhaps not -- for those I feel sorrow, please accept accept my condolences! This is the nineteenth story I have written this year -- not, I suppose a very good record, but you have to realize that life apparently goes on so peacefully in this village (to my knowledge) that I have to tax my old brain to extremes, to think of anything that would be of interest. I do however, have one' last "event" to discuss. A remark I heard recently struck me ?as being very timely, namely, that at this time of year it is usual to exchange gifts, (that you can often ill afford) for other people who will hopefully return the favour with gifts that (you often don't want, anyway)!!! ft is, I suppose, not so much the expense expense involved, but rather the thought behind it! In my family we tend (ususjly) to come down to the bottom line; We ask each other what we want, then go and get it. The financial burden is still extant, but at least everyone remains honnv!!! Naturally our close proximity to the U.S.A. (Where most things are less expensive expensive anyway) play a part in this scenario, (thank you Mr. Wilson - for nothing) and if we can believe our T.V. shows, where mother asks - for, and gets a diamond bracelet, a' fur coat, or a new car, -- that ma^kes my gift of a new coat, or dress, look rather puny, but thank Heavens we, so far, haven't degenerated our ideals, to the point of being ridiculous. . As I write this short story I've just looked out of the window, and it's snowing like crazy. No wonder that Kipling wrote those immortal lines, "Mad dogs of an Englishman 'go out in the noontime sun"! Let's forget that, I'm a Canadian now, (and proud of it.) So in closing,_ for this year, let me say, right now, at this wonderful time of Christmas and New Year, that we are lucky. We have a great country with some of the finest people people I've ever known, and to one and all, I wish a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year. P.S. Don't do anything I wouldn't do. But if you do! -- Don't get càughtü!
