4 - Orftno Weekly Times, Wednesday, February 16, 2Q0Qi^-- Ops eliminated Midgets crush Tamworth in quarter final play The Orono Lumber Midgets travelled up Hwy 35 to Ops February 8 while enjoying, a two-games-to-one lead in their six-point series. Determined to keep the lid on the speedy Flames, Orono were flying from the opening face-off, taking a 1-0 lead only 25 seconds in. the Flames fought back tying it at one with time ticking down in the first. The Leafs jumped ahead with two quick goals early in the second. The Flames managed managed to draw within one early in the third, but their fate was sealed by three consecutive Leaf goals as the as the game wound down giving Orono a convincing 6-2 win. The Flames started the series off strongly then seemed to lose steam, but Leafs by contrast, appeared more confident and accomplished accomplished with each and every game, deservedly taking the series three games to one. Bob Witheridge lead the scoring for Orono with two goals and an assist, while singles singles went to Tyler Knight, Ryan Tresise, Jeff Thompson and Danny Tresise. Leddy and Witheridge led the way with .two goals apiece while Jamie Parry and Jeff Thompson potted potted singles. Playmaker Ryan Tresise had three, while Rick Howe, Mike Knox, Leddy and Witheridge all added helpers. Adam Tollett helped set the tone of the game with several of his patented bone crunching crunching hits. Chris Burritt, who made his first start in three weeks had a solid outing, in net. ' Because Tamworth won the flip, Orono will play the next two games of this 6-point series on the road--this Saturday (February 19th) at 7:30 and again Tuesday, (February 22) at 8 p.m. Game 4 if necessary, will be played at home Friday, February 25 at 8:00 p.m. and, if necessary game 5 will be Saturday, February 26 at 7:30 in Tamworth. The 'Applemen ' came out flying--ousting Ops was. the only one thing on their minds. The game was a close, tense affair featuring end-to-end play. A scoreless first period was a good indication that it would be up to the goalies to determine determine the game's winner. Much to the delight of the fans, Orono opened the scoring first at 7:27 of the second period. period. Game two is slated for Sunday afternoon in Tamworth at 3:30 p.m. Apple Blossoms knocks off Kedron The Apple Blossom Shop played an exhibition, game against Kedron #1, one of the top teams from Oshawa. Orono defeated the Oshavya team by a score of 6-5. Heather Maitland opened up the scoring on an assist from Emma Lunn and Lucas Leech. The second goal# by Paul Bridger was assisted by Johnathon Picco.
