At the Jan 23 meeting of Durham Regional Council, Council members voted in favour of asking the eight area municipalities to inform Regional Council if the municipalities wduld support a Region-wide by-law which would regulate smoking in public places and workplaces. Currently, Durham Region's eight municipalities have different bylaws. A Region-wide bylaw in Durham would ensure that all businesses are on a level playing field while serving to protect area smoke.
