Off to Russia (continued from page 1) the Mayor adding, "It is my personal wish that I will be here fqjr that meeting." The Mayor's motion met with some opposition from councillors Jane Rowe and Jim Schell. Councillor Schell asked if there was an absolute need to do this, because it would be an inconvenience to the public. public. "If we have GP&A in the morning and council in the evening, it doesn't give people people much time for a second shot at the can," he said. Schell was referring to public opportunity to address items on the agenda. He also questioned questioned the need for the Mayor to be present at every single meeting since Clarington did have a Deputy Mayor. Councillors Schell and Trim as Regional councillors fulfill this role on a rotating basis. "It brings to question the whole role of a Deputy Mayor," Schell stated. Decisions made at a GP&A meeting are not binding binding till they are ratified at the following council meeting. Councillors Schell and Rowe were the only votes opposing the meeting date change, so the Mayor will be going to Russia as planned.
