Mardi 6, 2002 Off to the Winter Games Whitney Greentree, who skates with the Orono Figure Skating Club, recently placed sixth in the Pre-Novice level at the Eastern Ontario Sectional Competition. The ranking gives her a chance to represent Eastern Ontario at the upcoming upcoming 2002 Ontario Winter Games. Whitney maintains a rigourous training program, which includes five days per week of skating as well as ballet and off-ice training. Under the direction of her coach Ann Wilson, and choreographer Pam Watson-Richards, Whitney's efforts have certainly paid, off this year. She attends Good Shepherd Elementary School in Courtice where she is in Grade Eight. This past weekend, the boys played two solid games of hockey and were rewarded with two big victories over Douro. Orono leads the semifinal semifinal series, two games to none. Tire first game was played Friday night in Douro. Orono came out flying, scoring twice in the first period. The first goal was scored by Kyle Cox assisted by Doug Garlick. The second goal was potted by team captain Kevin Ladoucer from Kyle Allin.i Orono added three more goals in the second period while Douro managed only one on goaltender Kevin Martin. Cox scored his second second . of the game midway through the period to give Orono a 3-0 lead. Assists went to Ladoucer and Adrian Vasseur. Ladoucer scored his second from Cox, and then Vasseur rounded out Orono's scoring in the period with an unassisted effort. The boys headed to the locker room with a 5-1 lead. Douro made a game. of it, though, in the third period, ..scoring two goals to crawl back to 5-3. However, Doug Garlick put the nail in the coffin coffin with 36 seconds left as he potted an empty-netter from Steve Burt. Final score in Game #1: 6-3. Game #2 was played in Orono Sunday evening. Both Henderson Tree Farm records big win! Henderson Tree Farm Tykes travelled • to Bowmanville on Friday night and soundly defeated Bowmanville #8, 6-0. This was a big win for the Tykes as it secured them a top six finish in the standings, which means they will be playing the top teams in the Division in round robin playoffs playoffs starting. Saturday. Dylan Dennis and Matt Verkuyl lead the goal scoring parade with two each. Singles went to Ben Smith and Jennifer Mercer. 1 Picking up one assist eâch .were Smith, Brittany St. James, Warren . Ball, lan Third and Mitchell Marchbank. Taylor • Tice played a great game recording , the shut-out. Good Luck in the playoffs teams came out flying and it was a very close game for the first two periods. This was a very physical game with a number of penalty penalty minutes being assessed, especially to the visitors in the late stages of the game. Assists went to Adrian Vasseur and Kevin Ladoucer. ■ This game stayed very close until about two minutes into the final period when Douro's goaftender was injured and taken off the ice on a stretcher by ambulance. After a lengthy delay, the two tearps resumed play; .Douro's new goalie proved to be no pushover; Orono only scored two more times. Moffat completed the hat trick from Hicks and Burt, and Evan Moore finished the scoring late from j. C. Beecroft. Final score: 4-1. ■ Gaine three will be played oil Thursday night in Douro. Good luck, boys! Problast team The Problast Peewees met Armstrong's IGA on February 2ti "and played to a 3-3 tie. Paul" Brownell made the start in net and played a strong game. Tills was the team's only game in two weeks. They are pumping up for the playoffs. Blain Cox opened the: scoring assisted by Nick Fall is Fallis scored the' second second assisted by Andrew Kirkbride. Kirkbride rounded out the scoring assisted by Adam Wood and Matthew Smit.
