Competing for the Orono Club were: back row, left to right - Kaiti Colville, Bev Netusil, Michelle Moffat. Front row - Stefanie and Christine Kadykalo. Sarah Beranger also competed but was absent for the photo. Stutt's Novice works hard for back to back v ; W 'i *v*. : -, ; V; playoff wins Orono began the playoff season with a terrific 2-1 victory victory over Newcastle on Saturday, March 9. Chris, the goalie, played the game of his career (to date) and made at least four spectacular saves against breakaways. Stosh Fabricius skated his heart out to the get the winning goals. Way to go team. Orono remained unbeatable and won a second playoff game on Sunday, March 10 against Newcastle-Andrew St. Goalie Chris had another outstanding game. His quick reflexes saved many shots on net. The first two goals were scored by Brandon Cox and Stosh Fabricius, both in the first period. Persistence led to two more goals in the second by Stosh and Brandon. The crowd jumped up from their seats when, at two seconds left to go in the third, Drew Rocha scored the final goal to win the game, 5-1. Keep up the good work. -TF Orono Lumber Midgets wrap up semi-finals with big win Another chapter has been written in Orono hockey history. history. The Midget Leafs will join the Bantams and the Juveniles on the road to the All-Ontario finals. Game #3, played in Orono, had the Leafs hot as they rolled over the Douro Dukes, 4-0. Scoring for the Leafs were Heerschop (from Field and Pisani), Field (from Caruana and Heerschop),. C. Robinson (from Field), and McAllister (from Sutton). Game #4 in Douro on Friday night was à different matter. Orono came out on the wrong end of a 5-4 overtime loss. Our boys played hard but had a tough time beating Douro's seventh man on the ice. Goal-getters for the Leafs were Pisani (C. Robinson), Caruana (3) (Sutton), and James (Bames and Garisto). Orono took a late penalty in the third period and were short-handed in overtime when Douro scored the winner. winner. Slemon played a strong game for Orono. The boys were able to clinch the series Sunday night at home in front of a capacity crowd. Orono's Rowe opened the scoring early in the first period from Allin and Millson. The one goal lead held until Douro tied it in the second period. Goalie Darrell Kennedy really kept the Leafs in the game, making save after save. The Leafs scored the winner with 23 seconds left in the second. Robinson set up Millson. The third period featured end-to-end action but the Orono Leafs held off the Dukes to finish the series as the victors. The win sends the boys off to Thedford for the All-Ontario Finals. Problast kick off playoff with IGA The Problast Peewees played two games this week and lost two close decisions. The first game was against Bowman ville #6 on March 6. Paul Brownell and Jason Hoyne shared the goaltending duties and were sharp when called upon. Orono lost 3-2. Andrew Kirkbride opened the scoring assisted by Nick Fallis. Adam Wood scored the second, assisted by Josh Dobson. In Game # 1 of the playoffs, Problast met Orono Armstrong IGA. The boys Turner, Tyler Skelton, Kenny Jackson and Blain Cox also contributed to a good team effort. Blossoms vs Newcastle results in a tie The Orono Apple Blossom Atoms met Newcastle on March 2 and wowed their fans with a 2-2 tie. Shawn Lowe and Alanna Ticknor played great in the net.
