The crowd came out and enjoyed the sun and the baseball. The teams from Kendal and Port Hope did not disappoint. They played an excellent game of baseball with Troy Foster's home run making the difference. difference. He cashed in a single by Dave Trew. Kendal's Mark Foster (no relation) pitched a gem of a game holding the Flyers to no runs as he pitched six solid innings. Mike "Ned" Landers pitched well except for one pitch. Then Eric Zuvic was called on for the ninth inning and got the first three batters out. Once again the Eagles are soaring with 2 wins in three attempts this weekend. The boys are playing excellent baseball surrendering few hits and playing almost flawless in the field. Troy Foster's bat is making the difference in the run scoring. It's the reason wé wear seatbelts and why we put smoke detectors in our homes. The same is certainly true for the Municipality, which must prepare for even the most remote of possibilities. Here at Town Hall and in our emergency department facilities, we take that responsibility very seriously. As host community for a nuclear station, Clarington has taken extra precautions, alongside the Fire and Emergency Services Department at Ontario Power Generation. The Municipality has partnered with OPG Darlington Nuclear to create an integrated response system that ensures the two large, highly-trained services can work as one in an emergency. We have also created partnerships with other Durham Region municipalities who can assist, as required, including the response teams from OPG Pickering Nuclear. Every municipality in Ontario is required to have an emergency management plan, including training and exercises for employees, public education and an annual review and testing of the program. Clarington has two plans; one is a peace-time emergency plan, the other a nuclear emergency plan. In addition, both OPG's nuclear sites have created a 'defence in depth' system of on-going fire safety assessment, prevention, detection, barriers, suppression, response and operating experience. It combines excellence in human performance through high-level staff training with prevention innovations and top-notch response equipment. Darlington Nuclear is regularly peer reviewed by international experts and has received high praise for its fire prevention and preparation procedures. Back in October, 2001, new higher standards of security were also introduced. These included an armed on-site response capability, improved security screening, protection against forced entry and enhanced inspection of people and vehicles; all added protections against any type of human- provoked incident at the station. I personally, along with the Municipality take the wellness and safety of our residents very seriously and continue to work with Darlington Nuclear to ensure everything that can be done is being done to protect our families. We are prepared and we will continue to raise the bar at every opportunity. You can view our emergency plans on-line in the Document section of the Municipality's wgbsite fwww.municipalitv.clarinaton.on.ca).
