In front: Darryl Stacey The Clarke High School Senior Boys Soccer Team had a tremendous finish to their season, recently winning the South Kawartha and Kawartha Championships. In the South Kawartha playoffs, Clarke defeated Cobourg D.C.I. West 2-1 after trailing at the half. Clarke scored two goals in the last ten minutes of the game to advance to the final. Goal scorers were Doug Garlick and Devan Sutton. Darryl Stacey helped preserve the win by making a brilliant save on a penalty kick. Clarke faced Port H.S. in tStfar the finals and won 3-2 on the strength of a hat trick from Devan Sutton.Clarke advanced advanced to the Kawartha Championships Championships which included schools from the Lindsay and Peterborough regions. In the first game, Clarke trounced St. Thomas Aquinas from Lindsay 6-0. Goal scorers for Clarke were Mark Spiers and Doug Garlick with two apiece, with singles going to Paul Richter and Matt Lewis. Darryl Stacey was perfect in net. 4 In the Kawartha Championships, Championships, Clarke fell behind 2- 0 before rallying to win 4-2. Goal scorers for Clarke were Greg Howe, Paul Richter, Mark Spiers and Doug Garlick. The Kawartha Championships was a first in Clarke's history. Clarke advanced to the Central Ontario Championships Championships where they lost to a team from . Trenton. Cam Richardson and Devan Sutton scored in the 4-2 loss. Although most teams * boast of carrying many rep. players from the summer teams, all of Clarke's players came up through the local house leagues. Royal LePage Midget season update The first game of the season for the midgets was a 5-3 win with Matt Bester scoring a hat trick. Josh Dobson and Tyler McKenzie scored the other two goals. The second game ended in a 3-3 tie, after Mike Whelan wired a shot in from the blue line with 9 seconds left in the game. Nick Williams and Tyler Skelton scored the other two goals. Game three was a 5-1 loss with Nick Williams scoring the only goal assisted by Dustin Armstrong and Jamie Stevens. . Game four was a 1-1 tie, with Josh Dobson scoring the only goal assisted by Dustin Armstrong and Jamie Stevens. Great work was played by Orono in the fifth game with a 4-0 win over Newcastle. - Kenny Jackson was outstanding outstanding in net for the shut-out. Matt Bester scored two goals with Blain Cox and Cam Delorme also scoring goals. A solid team effort to date by Brent Burpee, Wade Clark, David Grey, Blair McKenzie and Justin Westerink. J.C.
