Wednesday, January 12, 2005 Qrono Weekly.Times Armstrong Peewees "C" and "D" champs On December 22 the Orono Armstrong I.G.A. Peewees traveled to Trenton to take part in their tournament. tournament. Orono started against Trenton Panelas and skated to a 2 - 2 tie. Scoring for Orono were Brandon Mathwich and Theo Devries with a goal each and assists to Dustin Hinchey and Cody Lamers. In the ' second game against Trenton Rolfs, we were defeated 5-3. Goal scorers scorers were Brandon Mathwich with 2 goals and Theo Devries with 1. Assists went to Kyle Mathwich (2) and Dustin Hinchey. After this the Orono team headed to the "D" division against the Manvers Mustangs. Mustangs. This was one of the most exciting games of the tournament as Orono won in sudden death overtime, 5-4. Daniel Stavrakos scored Orono's first goal unassisted. Our second goal was by Brandon Mathwich assisted by Brandon Lane. Lane scored assisted by Andrew Coldin. Theo Devries scored assisted by Will Kirby and then Mathwich scored in overtime overtime assisted by Ryan Pratt and Devries. The whole team really pulled together in this one and Robert Brosseau played his usual solid style between the pipes to make many great saves. On December 28, the Orono Armstrong I.G.A. Peewees were on the road again for a tournament in Napanee. In the first game we faced, the Gananoque Islanders and were defeated 5 to 2. Theo Devries and Dustin Hinchey were the goal scorers unassisted. unassisted. After losing their first game, Orono came out against Napanee Boyers wanting, and needing a victory. The boys Acoustics Peewee win "C" division The Global Acoustics peewee team won the "C" division at the Bewdley tournament tournament on December 29th. The first game of the tournament tournament was a tie against the team that went on to play in the "A" final. . The second game was lost to Sunderland 3-1. The team then went on to play for the "C" title right after this game and playing a great game and winning 7-0. Patrick LeBlanc played a stellar game shutting out the opposition! Goal scorers in this game were Brandon Lane with a pair and singles went to Brandon Mathwich, Dustin Hinchey and Ryan Pratt. Assists were earned by Lane (2) and Mathwich (1). With this win the Orono Peewee's were off to the "C" Championship. In the championship game Orono faced Napanee Boulevard Peewee's. Orono came out flying in this game to post a 12 to 3 victory victory and were declared the "C" Champions. Goal scorers in the final game were Brandon Lane with 4 goals, Brandon Mathwich with 3 goals and singles to Patrick Langley, Will Kirby, Ryan Pratt, Kyle Mathwich and Theo Devries. Assists went to B. Mathwich (4), Lane (2), Dean Engelbert (2) and singles singles to Langley, Kirby, Pratt, Dustin Hinchey and Daniel Stavrakos. Robert Brosseau turned it up a notch and played exceptional exceptional in all three games as well as every member of the Orono team who also only took one penalty in the three games played. Allin's Midgets win two mansen (2), Brandon LeBlanc (1), Alex Armstrong (1), Jagger Williams (1) & Glenn Murray (1). There were some beautiful assists from Kevin Shoenmaker, Anthony Bor- tolazzo, Troy Dixon and Trevor Hemming. On January 8th the team lost 2-1. It was a close game with many chances from the players. The score does not reflect the pressure that the Acoustics put on the opposition. opposition. The goal was scored by Jagger Williams assisted by Glenn Murray. Our next game is Monday, January 10th. Allin's began the new year with a game in Beaverton on Tuesday January 4th. Orono started the game off with 3 goals in the second period, the first 2 goals by Devon Sutton. Sutton's first goal was assisted by Kyle Balson and the second was assisted by Josh Moffat. Mark Spiers slammed the third in assisted by Cam Richardson. Beaverton managed to find the back of the net with 1:18 left in the second and it wasn't until the end of the third that Doug Garlick flew down the ice and popped the puck in, making the final score 4-1 for Orono. Troy Webster played a great game in net. The next game was played in Orono on Sunday January 9 against Omemee. The Omemee team started the ' scoring off with two goals in the first but with two minutes left in the first period Scott Henderson slipped one in assisted by Brent Vanstone. In the second period Orono worked like a team and managed 3 more goals, the first by Greg Howe assisted by Evan Moore, the second by Matt Moffat assisted by Sutton and the third by Garlick assisted by Moore. Omemee managed another in the second. With only 2 minutes into the third Howe put yet another another point on the board assisted by Garick. Steve Hicks slid #6 in assisted ,by Spiers and Simon Kingston. Final score 6-3 Orono. Net duties were up to Alex Hart for the game, and he had an excellent game. B.H. Stuffs sensational scoring The Stutt's Pharmacy Novice Leafs once again lit up the ice with a sensational game against Bowmanville's Cactus Clothing. Cameron Reilly scored an impressive 6 goals. Mitchell Traschler (2) and Jacob Diamond also put us on the scoreboard. The first period ended very close thanks to the defensive play of Kale HEARING SERVICE Stephens, Jack Kingston, Ryan Armstrong, Jacob Stere and Daniel Owens. They managed to allow only one shot on their net in the first period. In the second period, the offence came to life with Glenn Acom, Lucas Crosby, Elizabeth Jackson, Jimmy Chaplow, Austin Cole, and Tyler Trimble helping their centremen in the scoring action. The third period saw another couple of goals, for a final score of 9 - 1. Daniel Benedict showed great goal- tending skills once again.
