Wednesday, June 8, 2005 Orono Weekly Times - 5 Old fashioned fun at St. George's this weekend In a typical summer fair from years gone by, children always played an important part by demonstrating their relationship and husbandry of their pet in a pet parade. Not to be outdone in 2005, the Summer Fay re idea has been updated a little to permit the children to also think up an unusual costume or means of presenting their animal at the Fayre. Children under 12 are invited to bring their pets to the "Best Dressed Pet Contest" at the old time Summer Fayre, being held Saturday, June 11 from 9:am until 5:p.m. The judges for this event will be Dr. Matt Stephenson, DVM of the Orono Veterinary Clinic and the paramedic from the Newcastle Veterinary Hospital. Entries should be registered registered with Marg Lofgren by Friday June HO at 5:00 p.m. She will provide directions and instructions to the corner of Mill and Edward Sts in Newcastle just north of the 401 on the Mill St. Exit. In the Church Hall at St. George's Anglican Church, pioneer skills will be demonstrated. demonstrated. There will be quilting, weaving, spinning, carving, painting and other crafts necessary necessary for survival in times gone by. There will be booths selling selling a variety of crafts, plants, preserves, baked goods, and slates. With no admission charge for all this, we must also add that there is a floor- show featuring the Ganaraska Cloggers, a Barber Shop Quartet, and other singers and dancers. There is a silent auction, face painting for the kids and family fun with games of skill, like ring toss i and a. duck pond for the children. There is an art show and the First Annual Elizabeth Skelding Raisin Pie Contest. Hot dogs, hamburgers, hamburgers, popcorn Sno Cones and cotton candy will be available for sale.
