MacKay attended an open house at M.P. Bev Oda's constituency constituency officè in the afternoon, afternoon, and a barbecue in Port Perry in the evening. Having nearly missed the vote himself, late Thursday night, on the $4.6 billion in budget amendments proposed, by the NDP, MacKay said, what the.Liberals did by limiting limiting debate on the budget by one hour, "was sneaky." "Aligning with a party that clearly has a separatist agenda, agenda, is breaking all the rules," stated MacKay in a brief interview interview with the Times on Friday afternoon. This kind of behaviour behaviour breeds cynicism bordering bordering on apathy, says MacKay. He denies that his party, the Conservative Party of Canada, aligned themselves with the Bloc to vote against the Liberal budget in May, hoping to bring down the government government in a vote of non-con fidence. According to MacKay, the Bloc and the Conservatives merely took the same stance on the budget. The Liberal's amended budge passed third reading by a vote of 152-147 on June 23rd. Six of the 98 Conservative Conservative MPs were absent for the first of Thursday night's votes "It's all about optics and buying the Liberal spin," stat ed MacKay. "People today are buying into the Liberal spin." MacKay said his party had to be more effective, in getting their message out. "We have to get out there and work harder, harder, we have to get our leader out there," he stated. "I believe the country is ready for change" he said. "We have to be diligent, constructive, constructive, and put forward a positive message."
