This left me at home to maintain the flower beds at Mr. Young's (the former former Forestry Station) and the Sénior's Complex. This turned out to be no small task with the heat wave and lack of rain. It kept me hopping to keep the flowers alive. It was during one of my walks through the hedges at the Forestry, to change the sprinkler that I remembered an incident incident that happened some thirty years ago. The superintendents house at the Forestry, which we referred to as the "Big House" had been rented to an OPP officer and his family. We had been pruning the hedges at the Forestry for about three weeks and we'd got to the north side of the fish pond, near the Big House. It was a hot old day and we were having a smoke break and gabbing gabbing away when we noticed a little girl walking walking towards us carrying a paper bag. It turned out she had four popsicles in the bag, one for each of us. We talked with her for a while and found out that they had moved in on the weekend. With the small-talk over, we finally asked her if she had seen any "little people" people" yet? She looked kind of puzzled so I explained to her how these little people people lived in the hedges and that I thought they may have come over from Ireland by hiding in John Breen's luggage. "Oh, but there is," I replied, and told her how they had wasted the evening doing something something that would have been done anyways.
