{ Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, January 8,2003 - 7 ^ Big win for Di's Pizzeria Bantams On Saturday, January 4th, the Di's Pizzeria Bantams started started the New Year off with a bang, winning their game against Newcastle on home ice. Andrew Fudge scored the first goal of the game with five minutes left to go in the first period and the assist went to Dustin Armstrong. A short time later Orono scored again, this time the goal coming from Jamie Stevens who buried the puck in the top of the net. Denis Beenen and Matt Fuller both got the assists on this goal. Orono was up 2-0 going into the second. In the second period Newcastle managed to score one goal. This was the only goal of the period. The third period was a busy one for Orono, who managed to score an outstanding 4 goals within the fifteen minutes. The first goal of this period was scored by Dave Gray who positioned positioned himself well at the side of the net and managed to slip the puck past the goalie off of a rebound. Earning the assists for this goal were Dustin Armstrong and Tyler Skelton. A minute later Armstrong scored a goal himself off another another rebound, this time the assists going to Andrew Fudge and Johnathen Picco. Newcastle scored later on, but it did nothing nothing to faze Orono's scoring streak. A short time later Dave Gray made a nice move around a Newcastle defenceman and picked the corner for his sec ond goal of the night. The assist went to Brock McGill. Closing off the scoring for the night was Andrew Fudge who, despite being hooked by a Newcastle player on his breakaway, scored Orono's sixth goal and his second second of the night. Wade Clark and Johnathen Picco got the assists. Orono played extremely well and walked away with a 6- 2 win. All three offensive lines played well and their fore checking was good. The Orono defense also played well and had a error-free game. Michael Hisson supported the team with a great game in net. Orono's hard work and good demonstration of skill led to the best game the team has played all season. -KW Major Plumbing Novice scramble for 3-2 win The Orono Major Plumbing Novice Rep team played two games over the holidays, winning winning 1 and losing 1. Orono played Millbrook first and lost with a close score of 3- 2. After falling behind 2-0, Orono fought back, tying the game with goals by Evan Rosseau and Dylan Dennis, assists by Corey Peters and Tyson Robinson. Millbrook would score the game-winner late in the third, leaving Orono Country Cafe over Beaverton, 7-1 out of time to catch up. Orono then travelled to Fenelon Falls and came away with a hard-fought win, 3-2. The - Leafs continued their winning ways, downing Beaverton, 7-1. This game featured some fine passing, team play and, had the Beaverton goalie not stood on his head, the score would have been much higher. There were seven different scorers in this game. Ryan Samogyi, Jesse Desourdy, Spencer Cole, Chris Kuijpers, Sean Bargent, Tyler Webster, Greg St. James all notched singles in the win. The Leafs record now stands at 23- 1-1 with their last home game of the season on Friday against the Highland Storm. The playoffs will start shortly after that and the players are definitely very excited to get them started. Stutt's team enjoy tournament Stutt's Pharmacy Novice team played Bowmanville on December 22. Orono took a two goal lead in the first period period with the first goal scored by Eric Flim and the second goal scored by Maria Ferren, assisted assisted by Joshua Canfield. In the next game, Orono battled battled to a 3-3 tie with another Oshawa team. Brandon Leblanc scored all three goals unassisted. Patrick Leblanc made some key saves in net. Orono lost the next game 5-1 with William Kirby getting Orono's only goal. On January 4, Orono travelled travelled to Newcastle and came away with a 3-3 tie.
