Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, November 26, 2003 - 8 > Problast team battles back Allin's Orchard Midgets return to winning ways On Saturday afternoon Orono Problast Pee Wees met up with the Cimco team from Bowmanville. Orono scored early with a rush out of their own end by defenceman Jordan McDonnell, who received the pass from Neale Aziz. Centre Matt Puddicombe was quick to follow follow looking for a rebound. The boys were quick to find out that they were evenly matched teams and that goals in this game were going to be earned. Orono put another goal on the scoreboard early in the second period by Tyler Johanson with the assist going to Neale Aziz. Bowmanville quickly responded with two of their own to tie the game at two a piece. The third period brought a more physical game to the ice surface. Both teams found themselves killing penalties. Players like Adam Duke, Kevin Shoenmaker, Alex Shkuratoff and Daniel Stavrakos did an excellent job killing penalties. Anthony Bortolazzo and Patrick Langley provided great offence on our power plays but Bowmanville were able to score on a powerplay. Later in the third on an Orono power play Chris Hermenson nets one off a pass from Brian Dillon to tie the game. Orono goalie Patrick Rempel did an outstanding job to keep his team in the game. A slow start in the first period saw Crash ley making some big saves to keep his team in the game. With only about 3 minutes minutes left in the first frame, Nick Fallis potted the first goal on some nice cycling from Chris Moffat and Andy Bangay. With just 27 seconds left in the period, Steve Hicks buried the second goal from Doug Garlick and Chris Moffat. The second frame saw a long parade of penalties for both teams and no scoring. Woodville was putting the pressure on the Orono boys for the whole third period. Brian Pisani broke up a two on one with a nice slide which blocked up the shot. Crashley was kept busy making saves on numerous odd man rushes by Woodville. With 7:56 left in the third period, Woodville finally solved Orono's goaltending goaltending with a deflected shot beating Ian. The visitors kept applying pressure but the boys hung on for a 2-1 victory! Orono Novice Reps in impressive win DD Bobcaygeon burns Country Cafe Atoms Orono Country Cafe Atoms lost a hard fought battle this past weekend to Bobcaygeon 5-3. Orono fell behind 2-0 early in the first and battled back to within 1 on a goal by Stefan Fabricus unassisted. In the second, Bobcaygeon increased their lead 3-1 and Orono cut it to 3-2 on a goal by William Kirby assisted by Theo Devries and Michael Richards only to have Bobcaygeon make a late second second period goal to make the lead 4-2. Orono continued to battle to cut the lead to 4-3 on William Kirby's second of the night assisted by Theo Devries and Christopher Kuipers. Bobcaygeon scored late to make the final 5-3 for the home team. Harley McColl was like a steamroller as he aggressively aggressively stole the puck and carried it up the ice and pushed his way through the Bowmanville team. Stosh Fabricius received his pass and cashed it in to end the first period 2-1 for Orono. Orono was making some fine passes in front of the net, with Derek Snow, Ryan Ski lien and Jordan Pegutter all trying to cash in but to no avail. Brian Knapp skated end to end and was awarded Orono's third goal for his efforts. Harley McColl and Breanne Collier each picked up an assist when Chad Moore tucked the last goal in on the top corner. Last Friday night, the Port Perry Predators came to Orono and were handed a 6-2 loss. Scoring for Orono were Josh Gallina (2), Ryan Walton, Chris Haass, Dylan Dennis, and Warren Ball.
