They finished the regular season with a 14-4- 3 record. Before their Silver Stick tournament win early in December, they played Beaverton and won 5-3. Next up was Fenelon Falls, whom they beat 11-0. Then they won 7-1 over both Port Peny and Omemee and 7-0 and 11-3 over Millbrook. In January, they beat Newcastle, 4-2 and Omemee, 5-1. Goalscorers were Matt Verkuyl (14), Dylan Dennis (14), Chris Haass (14), Ryan Walton (5), Patrick McKay (4), Josh Gallina (3) and Mitch Marchbank. Congratulations to Jennifer Mercer who scored her first goal of the season on a breakaway breakaway and Connor Whitley who scored his first goal and assist after being called up. Assists went to Matt Verkuyl (18), Chris Haass (13), Dylan Dennis (9), Mitch Marchbank (7), Ryan Walton (5), Patrick McKay (5), Jennifer Mercer (4), Josh Gallina (3), Warren Ball (3), and Ian Third (3). Connor .Macvarish played a strong game against Millbrook after being called up and Josh Orono Novice Reps to face Fenelon Falls in five game series Kelly was strong between the pipes, recording two shutouts. In exhibition play, the Orono Major Plumbing Novice reps played the Clarington Toros AE team and came away with a 7-4 win. Scoring were Dylan Dennis (2), Patrick McKay (2), Matt Verkuyl, Chris Haass, and Ryan Walton. Assists went to Matt Verkuyl (3), Josh Gallina, Chris Haass and Dylan Dennis. The team is scheduled to play Fenelon Falls in a best 3 of 5 series to determine who will meet the Newcastle Stars. Good luck in the playoffs! -by VH Exciting weekend for #2 Major Tykes MOMS LOSE BY TWO IN ANNUAL SHOWDOWN On Friday, January 16, Orono Polymer Extrusion Major Tykes Team #2 came up against Orono's other Major Tykes Team #1. The stands at the arena were packed with many family and friends anxious anxious to see these two teams play for the win.'. Orono Team #2 took the lead just minutes into the first period with a goal scored by Tate Simpson. Orono Team #1 was soon to follow with a goal that made it a tie game. Early in the second period, Orono Team #2 took back the lead with two. goals scored within minutes of each other by Lucas Crosby. Although Orono Team #1 came back with two of their own, they were unable to catch up. Four more goals were Global charges net for victory Orono's Global Acoustic team enjoyed a weekend of victory. On Friday, January 16th, Orono won 2 to 1 against Newcastle. Ty Simspon and Ryan Skillcn each popped in a goal. On Saturday, January 17th, Orono stepped up against Bowmanville and showed a strong defence, excellent rushes, and a sluit-out by Andrew Gilbank. The score was 2 to 0. The two goals were shot in by Derek Snow and Slosh Fabricius. scored by Orono Team #2. The game ended with a final score of 7-3. Congratulations to Jacob • Diamond for getting his first hat trick of the season, and to Daniel Benedict for his goal and to Kale Stephens and Mitchell 1 Van Schyndel for their assists. Credit for a job well done goes to the entire team and to Dustin Boyd for his great goaltending. The Orono Polymer Extrusions Major Tykes Team continued their winning streak on Sunday, January 18. They faced an even greater challenge challenge facing off versus a team made up of their own mothers. It was the league's annual Mothers Against Sons game. Both sides showed great determination determination but it was the Tykes who claimed victory in the end with a final score of 4-2. The Tyke's goals were scored by Mitchell Trachsler (with two) and Jacob Diamond and Lucas Crosby with one each. Everyone had great fun and the mothers were just thankful that they survived with no serious injuries to report. They can hardly wait until next year. Special thanks to all the mothers who were brave enough to take the challenge and also to our two fabulous goalies, Daniel Benedict and Todd Stephens.
