Team supporters were treated treated to a 6-3 win by Orono's Global Acoustics against Bowmanville. Sinking one goal each were Ty Simpson and Chad Moore. Way to go, Orono! -by RE Orono's Major Plumbing Novice Rep team played some of the best hockey of their lives to capture the' 2004 Mite/Novice 'C' Division Championship at the recent Silver Stick tournament in Michigan. The Major Plumbing Novice D division Reps attended the international competition in St. Clair Shores, Michigan from January 30 to February 1. In their first game, Orono met the St. George Generals and won 8-3. They then met the West Lome Comets who came out ahead of Orono, 5-3. In the deciding game, for a trip to the finals, Orono played the Duluth, Georgia Ice Hawks and came away with a 5-2 win. Goal scorers were Matt Verkuyl (8), Patrick McKay (3), Ryan Walton (2), Dylan Dennis (2) and Chris Haass (1) . Assists went to Chris Haass (3), Ryan Walton (3), Patrick McKay (3), Matt Verkuyl (2), Jennifer Mercer (2) , Dylan Dennis (1), Mitch Marchbank (1), Ian Third (1), Josh Gallina (1) and Warren Ball (1). AP Ben deBoer also played well when called upon. Goalie Josh Kelly was outstanding, outstanding, making some unbelievable unbelievable saves. In the championship final, Orono had a re-match with the West Lome Comets. In the opening ceremonies, the players were all individually individually announced and both anthems were played, making for a spine-tingling experience for players and families. West Lome scored the opening opening goal in the first period. Matt Verkuyl then netted a goal for Orono that West Lome quickly answered. A tight battle ensued with Patrick "Shadow" McKay shutting down West Lome's star player. In the third, Matt got the go- ahead goal, assisted by Mitch Marchbank. Orono then slammed the door on West Lome. Helped by Patrick McKay, Matt Verkuyl sealed the deal with an empty netter, earning himself a tournament MVP title: Every team member played their heart out and the families cheered their voices hoarse. Credit goes to the coaching staff: Frank Dennis, Darryl Walton and trained Claude Gallina for coaching an excellent excellent game. The team brought home a huge trophy, a banner, medals and pins for the kids. Their names will now be recorded in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Excellent weekend, team. Everyone is so proud of you. You have put Orono on the international hockey map. -by EE Orono Novice Rep team will have their name recorded in the Hockey Hall of Fame after winning in last weekend's Silver Stick competion held in Michigan. Stutt's Novice see exhibition action in Lindsay Stutt's Pharmacy Novice played an exciting weekend of hockey at home. Friday night featured an exhibition game against Lindsay Wild which Stutt's won, 2-1. Justin Patterson worked hard as Stutt's goalie. Cavan Willsie and Curtis Stainton scored for Stutt's. On Saturday, Stutt's Pharmacy Novice played an exciting game against Newcastle with a 2-2 tie. Brittany St. James scored twice for Stutt's. Curtis and Billy Qualtrough earned the assists.
