On Sunday, the Orono Major Plumbing Novice reps finished finished their best of 7 series against the Newcastle Stars in four games with a decisive 6-1 win. Scoring two goals each were Warren Ball and Matt Verkuyl. Josh Gallina and Patrick McKay each earned singles. Assists went to McKay(3), Gallina(2), Ball, Chris Haass and Ryan Walton. Goaltender Josh Kelly played an outstanding outstanding series allowing only four goals to Newcastle in four games. Dylan Dennis, Jennifer Mercer, Ian Third, Mitch Marchbank and AP Connor Whitley also worked hard to earn the win. Orono now waits to see whom they will meet and when in the semi-finals. February started on the same winning note as January ended with the Reid squad winning 8-1 against Detox Environmental. While the Orono squad played a strong game, it just wasn't enough. Orono couldn't find the back of the net at all. Hobb Bakker managed to put three points on the board. Alex worked hard in net but couldn't stop all of the many shots on net. -by lUi Cafe Atoms lead wears thin with Ops Orono Country Cafe Atoms had to settle for a tie versus OPs. Missed scoring chances continue to frustrate the Country Cafe team, who are now looking for a win in the Constellation Playoff Round. Orono earned a 1-1 draw with Ops in the opening game of the round robin affair. Orono led most of the way on a goal by Robert McKay assisted by Zachary Gibson and Mitchell Jackson. Ops tied the game with 7 minutes to go. Orono out-played Ops but the inability to convert their chances was the story of the game. Ryan Brandt played solidly in net. Orono faces off at home against Ops on Friday at 8:00 p.m. Other opponents in the round robin are Bobcaygeon and Millbrook, with the top two teams advancing. -by T.R.
