Ontario • 905-987-2295 Novice Reps make finals after outstanding series ORONO NETS SEVEN GOALS IN SINGLE PERIOD On the weekend, the Orono Major Plumbing Novice Reps concluded their best of 7 series in 4 straight games against the Deseronto Bulldogs. In Orono Friday night, Orono and Deseronto were tied 2-2 going into the 3rd, but Orono scored 6 unanswered goals to win 8-2. Game 4 in Deseronto Saturday saw Orono score 7 unanswered goals in the 2nd, eventually winning 10-0 earning earning Josh Kelly the shutout. Goalscorers were Matt Verkuyl(8), Ryan Walton(5), Dylan Dennis(3) and Josh Gallina(2). Assists went to Gallina(4), Dennis(4), Walton(3), Chris Haass(3), Patrick McKay(3), Warren Ball(2), Jennifer Mercer, Mitch Marchbank and Verkuyl. Ian Third and AP Ben deBoer also had great games. Through playoffs, the Orono team has an 11-0 record with 92 goals scored and 14 allowed. Since November 23 in 29 games, Orono has only recorded one loss. The team will now move on to the All-Ontario Finals against either Coldwater or Baltimore. Congratulations and good luck in the finals Orono! -by V.H. Peewees vie for bragging rights in end of season action On Saturday night two Orono Peewee teams went head to head in regular league action. Orono #3 beat out Orono #2 Problast by a well earned score of 3-1. Four days later the two Orono teams played again. Orono Problast was determined determined to come out on top. Alex Shkuratoff helped set the pace of the game by scoring on a rebound shot from Tyler Johansen in the first thirty seconds seconds of play. Two minutes later, Chris Hermenson scored, with the assist going to Kevin Shoenmaker. An early second period goal by Tyler Johanson on a pass from Alex Shkuratoff put Problast up by three goals. Orono #3 got back into the game in the second period Ejggs3EEEI with a goal from Ryan Skillen assisted by Ty Simpson. Quick to answer that goal, Anthony Bortolazzo blasted the puck in on a passing play from Tyler Johansen to Jordan McDonnell. Second period back and fourth action continued. Orono #3 answered with a goal from Derek Snow on a pass from Cory Weiss. Matt Puddicombe ended the second period by scoring for Problast in the last ten seconds of play. The third period was full of spirited play by both teams. Goalies on both sides -- Patrick Rempel for Orono #3 and Andrew Gilbank for Orono #2 - were outstanding. A hard fought goal by Brandon Cox off passes by Brian Dillon and Glen Murray, Daniel Stavrakos and Adam Duke re-defined defensive play by shutting down the opponent's offence. Great action by both teams; good luck in the playoffs, -by K.S. Stuff's jabs Cactus, 3-1 Stutt's Pharmacy Novice returned to the Courtice South Arena on Saturday to face Cactus Clothing with Curtis Stainton in net. Stutt's were victorious with a 3-1 win. Brittany St. James earned a hat trick with Cavan Willisie earning an assist. Stutt's put forward a strong effort and it showed in their team work. by B.S.
