Friday, May 5, 2017 7 Brooklin Town Crier Are you the mildly curious or nosey type? Good. Then you'll love the annual Doors Open Whitby event that runs 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, May 6. In Brooklin, there'll be plenty to investigate. Half of Whitby's 16 locations are in our area or periphery, which means we're likely to get an influx of other curious folks from outside Brooklin. Better start sprucing up the front yard! And here's where the BTC is going to help you navigate the day. Let's start in the middle and work our way to the edges of Brooklin. You'll need to cross Baldwin from Grass Park, go north a few metres to Vipond, left on Vipond and the building is across the street. One of the loveliest community libraries you'll find. 13 - Back in the car (or on a bike - or a jaunt on foot) for a short trek along Columbus to the Spencer Community Centre. It was originally a log cabin one-room schoolhouse that operated till 1965. 14 - Charles Best Diabetes Centre. East on Columbus. This brick farmhouse from around 1835 is said to house some supernatural events, or so claims Durham's Paranormal Seekers. Be careful out there! 15 - The Lusted Residence. Straight up Baldwin and just past Myrtle Rd. An historic family home from the 1870s. 16 - Heartland Equestrian. The property was originally settled in 1802. Today, it's the home of Debbie Williams's riding stable, complete with horseback riding lessons. On Saturday, visitors will be able to tour the the stable area and watch riding lessons and a horse show. There you have it. By the time you've dismounted from your horse at Heartland, you'll be hungry. Why not head back into Brooklin and enjoy snacks or food at one of the many great downtown spots?
