Family, friends and colleagues attended the ceremony. Mayor Edwards began his 33 year career in 1964. He served as Reeve Ward Councillor and Regional Councillor until becoming Mayor in 1991. During his two terms as Mayor, many projects were completed including adding four ice pads to Iroquois Park, a new fire hall, a major addition to the Senior Centre, the boat launch at Whitby Harbour and the opening of the Waterfront Trail in Whitby. Mayor Edwards passed on December 3, 2018 at the age of 92 - shortly after the passing of his beloved wife June. The Town of Whitby is grateful for his years of service and legacy of accomplishments.
