I only fear 1ts raco is extinct now, as well as that of tho valuable servants who used lo idontify themselves with their master's family. Our ghost was before my time ; but ofton and and often bave 1 heard my grand- mother talk of jit, and what a mys- tery it was. The housohold was largo and varied, consisting of the ald couple, some grown up ones,one of them married, an orphan niece, and two or three young children in the nursery. There wasno railways in thoso days, and when the family intended going to the country town they had to be up atdawn of day, 1ako a solitary broakfast, and sot out on what was then a formidable ox- pedition. Of course the affair used to bodiscussed in the family the ovening before, commissions given and the timo of starting fixed on. ¢ And now comes the strange part of my story.
