The first took place on Sunday morning, break: ing out aboul half-past one o'clock. The fire was first discovered inj the store occupied by Mr. W. Donnelly, ws a Grocery store. It was then too fas advanced to be easily extinguished which did not take place, notwith standing every effort of the fireme and citizens present, until the store was en'irely consumed, also the store occupied by Mr. R. Walton, as a stove depot and saddlery combined. Mr. Walton's loss will be over $6,000 and he is sured in the North British for only $2,000. Some of the pro- perty was removed, but an immense quantity was entirely destroyed, ex- cept what may be sold as old iron.-- W. Donnelly saved nothing at all ; the family were in bed at the time, and narrowly escaped with {heir lives, scarcely getting time to put on their clothes. His loss is about $4,100, in- sured for $2,500, in the Imperial, $1, 500, in the London and Lancashire, $1,000. The second fire took place] on Monday morning, and was more destructive than even the first. By it T. Lannin's stove and. tin shop, MY, Larmer's Boot and Shoe store, J. B. Green, Baker, W. H. Wrighton, threatened to demolish the whole block, including McGregor's hotel.-- Mr. Lannin's loss is $1,700, fully in- sured in the Commercial Union and Lancashire. ~ Mr. Larmer's loss is $320, insured in the London Corpora- tion for $150. Mr. Wriglton's loss we did not learn, and we regret that he had no insurance. Dr, Morris's loss is about $2,000, insured for $1,200 in the Lancashire. Lewis Glover's loss is $500, covered in the Royal.-- The insurance offices lose $14,825 or perhaps more. The entire loss, how- ever, must be over $20,000.
