A TRIP TO THE WEST Mr. Jos. Hood has recently re- turned from a trip to the. His journey included a visit to Willow Bunch, Indian 'Head, and Ogeuma in Saskatchewan. Part of the trip was a" jaunt of 65 miles by stage. Some of the crops looked all right and some looked 'pretty poor Iu the section travelled by Mr. Hood, crops are somewhat be- low the average. Tliere are patches here that are hardly worth cutting, and some terribly dirty farms. Mr. Hood gathered quite a vari- ety of prairie flowers, which can be seen in the STAR Office window. The great topic of cenversation in the West is Reciprocity, and fost of thé people are talking in favor of the .proposed agreement, because they believe that Reciproc- ity will give them a better market for their wheat, and cheaper farm machinery. Young ladies who wish to start housekeping on their own account should do well here because the country is full of bachelors who need wives. LIBERALS VICTORY! One school that places many of its graduates in good positions is the Elliott Business College of Toronto. Write to the College for a Catalogue It is sure to in- terest any ambitious young man or woman. TOWN HALL IMPROVENENT It'is the intent of the Council to materialiy improve the interior of our town Hall. In this connec- tion a suggestion has been made that is worthy of consideration. The suggestion is that the stage be enlarged by knocking out the rear wall of the building and building a small extension. This would of course mean additional expense, but if the work is done we are told that a group of public spirited young folk will at once go to work to help raise the money that is re- quired to make this additional and much needed improvement. The present stage can never accomodate anything of importance or real value, such as could be given with better stage accommada tion. The time to make the improve- ment is now while the work is be- ing done, as it will cost less than it would to start start improving a second time. More than that if once the improvement is consider- ed as being complete there would > | be great difficulty in starting again to select a Liberal candi-|5issss one te coum. date for the coming election to the DOMINION HOUSE This means you, Don't be bash- The election has been announced to take ful and wait for some else to speak. place on Sept 21, so that it is desirable that each municipality be well represented, Addresses, in which reciprocity will be tully discussed will be delivered by F. More lights and better light. New Waiting rooms. New office. A good gallery, in short everything will be new in- cluding a new name. DOMESTIC S8OIENCE Recently free cooking classes were held in the town hall. The attendance was good and the in- terest keen. Here is a goodglfield for the W.CT.U. ora branch of the Women's Institute. House- keepers, feel as do all other intel ligent people that there is much to be learnt in every branch of life, and that cooking and housekeeping are not acquired by intuition. All young girls should have the ad vantage of the best training pos- | [a , sible to instruct them in the diff. | cult art of keeping house. Domestic science classes could be well run in connection with the W.C.T.U. and would give an add- ed interest to the good work of this tostitution. There are plenty ot capable women round town to do the teaching, and plenty who feel the need of being taught. No housekeeper excels in everything, but nearly all can do one or more pieces of housework excellently FIREMAN'S EXCURSION The excursion of last week was the most successful yet held by the firemen. Three hundred and thirty-four persons took advantage of the cheap trip, and the larger rtion went through . to Niagara Falls. Not a few remained over until the next day. It took some courage to start the excursion in the early days. But there has not yet been one failure, and the Brigade have always made money, Last vear, of couiseé there was a railroad strike, consequéntly no excursion was held .. | COMING--F; E. Luke Opt.
