Our electric: light plant continues its service in its modest way, and while it is not Hydro-Electric, neither does it represent a big annual expen- diture such as the HydroElectric would require. "All this'and more is being done on a fixed rate of assessment. Some of our citizens have compiained at times that the rate is high; but-it might not be a bad idea to remember that the rate is as high or higher in other towns, and no great prospect of better conditions for many years to come. In Port Perry if we continue to pay our way as we have been doing, in five years the debenture debt will be prac- tically wiped out, and at the same time most of the permanent improve- ments will bave been made. Without any fuss, and often without much thanks our Councils: have been working out the financial problems of the town, making ends meet much a housewife does. ~ Their finances have not been large, but they have made good use of the money. We have yet to hear "of any complaint of waste or foolish expenditure. One feature of our Council govern: ment that has worked foc the good of the town has been' its comparative permanency. Councillors require ex- perience just as do other men. and to be putting in new mén annually for the sake of the glory (7) there is in it; is a foolish waste to the town. And what of the future of the town? In our opinion nothing could be better than to foster its growth as--"Port Perry the town of homes." Give out here for the holiday.
