Mr ard Mrs John! Guyton and son have returned from Toronto, where they spent a few days. There will be a lot of muskrat coats next winter by the way the boys are killing them off. (I'm glad I'm not a muskrat.) The roads are getting ._ better, at least there seems very few people left on the Island Sunday evenings. Oshawa's County 'Bill The measure enabling the separa-, tion of the town of Oshawa from the jurisdiction of the County of Ontario, for municipal purposes, was enacted tn the Provincial Legislature the past week. It will come before the County Council at their next session and may be dealt with at the time. However before it is put into effect it is to be voted on by the town ratepayers. The mayor, when interviewed on the subject, stated that some of the advantages accruing (rom separation, would be to relieve the town from paying her share of the discretionary expenditures of the County, such as those which loom largest--namely, for roads and bridges, from which the townspeople get little or no bene- fit. Judge McIntyre, in dealing with the appeal against the County as- sessment from Oshawa, recently, stat- ed that instead of Oshawa, or any of the minor municipalities of the County, having a fixed sssessment for five years, as formerly, are subject to change eyery year according to 'the increase in population, or local as- sessment. For instance, if Oshawa's population should double in the next _ five years her County assessment could and would very likely he doubl- ed in that time. Oshawa pays about $10,000. now, which would mean about $20,000. for County taxes. ~ --Oshawa Reformer The Bishop's Visit In spite of the fact that the weather was most unpropitious for the Bishop's Visit, the. Town Hall was crowded to greet him when he came to town on Tuesday evening of last week. He was an unusual bishop at times as he was presented by the Uxbridge Dra- : c Soeiety, but he and his associ« _ for the presentation of this production.
