Departments of Agriculture and Domestic Science at Port Perry High School July 4th--The monthly meeting of the Board was held on the above date with Rev. John Harris, Messrs E, H. Purdy, W. H, Letcher, James Lucas, Wm, Graham, W. H. McCaw, Drs. Mellow, Archer and Berry, pre- sent. The minutes of June meeting read and signed by the Chairman. The Secretary read a letter from Miss DeFoe accepting the Board's offer of $1150 for salary from Sept 1st, and a later letter from her saying that she would not return in Sep- tember. The committee of manage- ment was then authorized to find out from Mr Follick the qualifications re- quired by a new teacher and to ad- vertise for same. A letter was also read from Mr. T W. McLean asking for an increase in his salary but seeing an increase was made on January lst, the motion of Mr Purdy seconded by Dr Archer, that $100 more bé given making his salary $1200, was amended. Amendment--Moved by Dr Mellow and Jas Lucas that matter of increase be held over for consideration at the August meeting. Amendment carried by 5 to 3. ' Dr Mellow then made his report as Chairman of Committee on Agricul- tural Department and it was accepted. Mrs. John McMillan Tle death of Mrs. John McMillan, after an illness of some-weeks, on the! morning of Tuesday, July 2, 1918,was a sad surprise to our townspeople, Millan was seriously ill, it was not thought that the illness would end fatally. Everywhere expressions of regret and sympathy were heard. Mary McMillan was born at Bals- ville, Ont. (near Brantford) about 46 years ago. In the year 1900 Miss lan, and they resided in Cobourg for eight years, moving to Port Perry about ten years ago, where they have continued to reside, having -the high esteem of all who knew them. Mrs. McMillan was a member of the Methodist church, the funeral ser- vice was conducted by Rev. W Elliott.
