Butt has moved into the house he purchased from Mr Mills on Lilla St. Mr, A. L. Orchard has bought Mr. Butt's house on Bigelow St. ~and is moving 'into town from eagrave. We welcome Mr, Or- chard and family as citizens of Port Perry. Mr. R. Coulter, of Manvers Townsnip has moved to the Beare Farm just north of Port Perry, having purchased the property. We are glad to know that Mr. Coulter is settling here. Mrs. D. Archer and Mrs.E. H. were present at the Men- i n Choir concert on Friday last, Chief Nesbitt has purchased from Mr. J. Spinks the property formerly occupied by A. F. Car- negie. Monday evening's programme at the Methodist church was one of the best yet. The chop-stick contest and the Chinese wedding were both very interesting. The proceeds were $25.40. MOCK TRIAL Next Monday evening the en- tertainment will take the form of a Mock Trial. The prisoner 'is out on bail. The witnesses have been summoned. The counsel for the prosecution and defence have their briefs well in hand. Come to the Methodist church next Monday evening and hear the trial. There will be -a Public Employment Office in every tin of 10,000 people--and wherever the need for one exists. There will be 60 different offices in all--one-half are siready in operation. Public works, shipbuild- ing, roadbuilding, railway work --construction of bridges, im- provement of road-bed, making of new equipment--these will provide new opportunities for employment. In addition, the Government has sent a Trade Mission overseas to secure for Canada a sharein the business of providing materials "and pro- ducts required for reconstruc- tion work in Europe. This will mean much new work in the spring. 3) Land and Loans for Soldiers To help soldiers become far- mers the Government has de- veloped a programme that includesthe providing of land, the granting of loans, and the training and supervision _of those inexperienced in farming. At present, the soldier is grant- ed, free, in addition to his or- dinary homestead right, one quarter-section of Dominion lands. He also receives a loan - up to the maximum of $2,500. These original plans are now being broadened. If Parliament . passes the new proposals during this session, the Soldier Settle- ment Beard will be able to buy suitable land and re-sell it to the soldier at cost. Land up to the value of: $5,000 may be bought by this plan--the money to be repaid in 20 years: The low interest rate of 5 per cent. will be charged.
