There isa _ that applies very well to our present ituation: A Two women came before Solomon each claiming to be the mother of one - child. - Solomon quickly settled the' dispute by ordering his soldiers to cut the child in two and give half to each mother. Of course the real mother immediat protested, stating that ¢ 'she would let the other 'That's the idea in a nutshell--We all have our ideas and . sincerely believe that if they were carried out the town would be benefitted. At present there is no evidence that prices will' return to a pre-war basis. Taken all round we are just as well able to pay high prices as low prices, because when prices are high money is plentiful, and when prices are low money is scarce. For the past thirteen years we have been waiting for a time put down without the the" exception bein Sebert House, bot installed without local ins have been put in * should we begin to 1? The ratepayers can jents as a whole. 'More ' when we shall be able to afford'to do some permanent work on our streets, and we are waiting yet. Three fair pieces of road haye been built, but in two cases they were not of a per- manent type, and in the other case the work is not complete. There is no need to launch out on an extravagant program of road construction, but some permanent work should be done each year. Board of Trade Meeting At the first regular monthly meeting of the Board of " -Trade there was a good attendance, and if the interest keeps up the place of meeting will have to be larger. Favorable reports were received from the Provincial High- way committee, and from the Secretary regarding high water level in Lake Scugog. It might be noted in passing that the Board of Trade was fortunate in their selection of Secretary, as he has his work well in hand and his eyes-open to-all that pertains to the welfare of the town. The Publicity Committee outlined a.program to advertise Port Perry, and a grant of $25.00 was made toward this pro- ject. The Committee were also requested to wait upon the Council to ask for a grant for the same purpose. It was suggested that a prize be offered for the best slogan to be used in the development of Port Perry. Particu- lars of contest will be made known at an early date. Get your brains busy and see what fou can:do; 'but keep your ideas to yourself or some other fellow may steal them. The question of: daylight saving came up 'for discussion but it was decided to let the matter rest asit is for the pres- ent, as the railroads have taken no action, and there is no wish to push the matter unless necessary. v A lengthy discussion took place as to the best method of paving Queen St. in front of the business block. It was de- cided that no permanent work be done until it has been defi- nitely decided as to the type of road which the County and Province intend building on such portion bf-the front street as are taken over by these bodies. In the meantime the Board of Trade have requested the Council to put :Queen St. into fair repair. ~~ Gun Exploded--Hand Blown Off On Monday afternoon, Fred Hope, of Seagrave, was load- ing a shotgun preparatory to going out to shoot goundho y e be- gan trying to fix the weapon, when suddenly it exploded and almost completely tore away the left hand. The By-Law was enact- ed with a penalty not exceeding $60.00 attached for the violation of its provisions, . In discussing the provisions of the By-Law the word "close' was understood to mean to close the doors of shops to the Jublic, but that rearrangement of stock and other work may be done when required.
